PLENTY of room!!! There's lots of room for everyone who wants to come! We'd love to have you join us! And tell everyone else you know they can join, too! :)

Steelehc Jan 26, 2009 12:45 pm

Well, geez. I'd love to tag along, but we'll be leaving FAI for Michigan around the time you guys are showing up.

aviationkiwi Jan 26, 2009 9:23 pm

Okay. So far the best I can do is, slave myself to regular coach, not even Exit row available :(. Will be arriving ANC at 12:05am March 14 on DL and leaving 9:30pm March 16 on NW. Pretty pricey, so need to break my piggy bank.

Looks like I will be staying at the Courtyard ANC Airport Mar 13 and the Fairfield Fairbanks the other 2 nights.

Will confirm Friday if I ticket this.

Stop it mate. I really want to come but can't make the dates. Anyway, hope you all have a great time. Looking forward to the 2010 do!

We'll sing Auld Lang Syne in your honour... :D

aviationkiwi Jan 29, 2009 8:56 pm

Okay guys and gals. I'm officially in. Thanks to NWA and DL for letting me transfer miles between them, I redeemed an award. Will arrive 12:02am March 14. See you all there. I will probably stay either at the Courtyard by the Airport or the Hilton Downtown. Where is everyone else staying at?

BOB W Jan 30, 2009 7:38 pm

Ready, set, GO

Hotels booked, flight booked, train tickets bought, wine cellar seriously overstocked.....

Anyone know what the policy is for bringing you own wine on the train?

Ditto on hotels, flights, train tickets. Two days won't be enough to do serious damage to the overstock but it wil be a helluva headstart. :D

An important question indeed.

As expected, jackal is aware of the real priorities and will jump into action. ^ :)

jackal Jan 30, 2009 11:17 pm

OK, my friend, who is a conductor, surprisingly didn't know the policy (despite being the one to enforce it! :p).

I'll delegate calling Passenger Services at 907-265-2494 to BOB W, since they're closed now and it's his wine...

(Bob, make sure to specifically mention that you'll be on the winter train. You don't want to have to check it, as the bag car is not heated.)

alphaeagle Feb 11, 2009 4:07 pm

While I would still like to go, I was just laid off from my job. I've been expecting it, so it's not a big deal. It will depend on what kind of future employment I have if I'll be able to go.

Well, we'll look forward to positive news from you down the line! Good luck on the job front. At least there remains some very good jobs here--so far, I'm barely aware there is even a recession going on in that foreign country known as "Outside"...

Oh damm. I'll be transitting FAI for a day between KWI and SYD on the 17th. One day late.

The smart ones may well ask how does one go through FAI between KWI and SYD - than answer is in a OW xGLOB34 fare!

Hope the train trip is fun!

Too bad! But congrats on scoring such an exotic routing!

Do you pass through ANC at all? What's your route? If you have even a short layover in ANC on your way to FAI (if you found something directly to FAI, I'm surprised--do post details!), we can meet at the airport for a quick hi.

Safe travels! :)

A bump for those in CommunityBuzz who may not have seen this and a reminder to those who are subscribed to the thread that the festivities begin two weeks from today!

If you haven't joined yet, there's still room!

(If you still haven't finalized DO-transportation--specifically train ticket--arrangements, please let me know. If I don't hear from you, I'll assume you've taken care of your own tickets. Also, at this point, we have seven people planned to take part in the rental car out to Chena--the cost breakdown is now displayed in post #4. If two or more people join, we will need to split the group into two separate cars.)

I tried, but Simon bit me. I filed a lawsuit against you. I'll drop the suit for a few dozen bottles of wine... ;)

Er, oops...I started counting on the calendar at the wrong week. Thought we were closer to the end of February!

aviationkiwi Feb 24, 2009 3:40 pm

Bad news guys and gals. I just got my construction schedule for March and I have to work both Friday and Saturday during the DO. That means I'm a no go. I really wanted to see Alaska with you guys. Hope to see you all some other time.
:(

beckoa Feb 24, 2009 4:27 pm

For those out there who haven't purchased their flights to FAI from ANC or ANC from FAI... there is an ecert code on AS out there that takes 10% off the rates... (Its a 2009 Fur Rondy/Iditarod code)

Good for travel Feb 24 to March 25... intra-state travel, to/from ANC or OME...

monitor Feb 24, 2009 11:02 pm

Thank you very much for the code, beckoa. Reservation made with the discount on AS 109/16.

BOB W Feb 25, 2009 11:11 am

Flight what?

I know Pinot can give you strange visions, especially the corked stuff. Please tell me you are really on flight 190;)

I could save 13 bucks by changing, but then I would go to the back of the queue for the UG. And, I know that Monitor+1 have actually PAID, Yes, I said Paid for F on this flight;) I've never met anyone who actually paid for F ANC-FAI or FAI-ANC. It's just Not done!!!! 'Cuz then I might not get my UG:(

BOB W Feb 25, 2009 11:43 am

Whiner (winer)

I called the ARR. We can bring the wine on the train, but we cannot open it. So, We will need to figure out how much to bring as a carry on (or more than one) for evening festivities.

BTW this is post #1800 for me. Just a newbie still......

Bingo. None of the corked stuff was consumed but there was a certain amount of time required to navigate the rather inflexible AS website in order to make a new res and cancel the old one. :o AS 190 it is.

I guess got a bit careless when it came to posting around here at 1AM after substantial amounts of the grape and a session of trying to spot the stitches behind Pelosi's ears. This place does not demand exactitude. :)

jackal Feb 26, 2009 1:34 am

Welcome to the 1,800 club! :)

Bob, if you don't get your upgrade, then that means for sure I won't, so you can sit by me. (I'm in 14F--perfect place to view Denali...)

If SeeYa didn't book F, she can join us in row 14, too! :)

AS MVPG Breakfast/Lunch

For those MVPG's in ANC on the 18th of March, check out the AS MVPG Breakfast/Lunch~ I'll be there :D

BOB W Mar 3, 2009 8:06 pm

Bump

Only a few days Left. I see four at dinner on Friday the 13th. Anyone else coming?

Jackal, how are you getting to ARR on Saturday?

monitor Mar 3, 2009 8:40 pm

Now I've got to find those long john thermals that I put away until next season after the last football game. No sense in buying any more for my once or twice a year needs and also no sense not wearing them to the frozen tundra (I seem to recall that is near where we are going).

We are on for Friday night at BOB W's and also for whatever is happening on Monday since we have a seven hour change at ANC and would have plenty of time to join a group for dinner and get back there for our 1AM departure to SLC.

Cool... I'll be enjoying MTH and its seafood festival on Saturday, but Monday Night should work for me. I'll be waiting for ya guys in the BR :D

Am I one of the four? I think I did mention up-thread that I'd be there.

I hadn't planned that far out. Maybe we can work something out where before we go to the train station, you can follow me to the airport and we can leave my car there, and then you can leave yours at the depot. Upon our return, we can follow the reverse procedure--I can take you over to your car at the depot. (Or vice versa--your car at the airport, mine at the depot--it doesn't matter. We can either split charges for parking at the depot or we can sneak the car into the parking lot at the Comfort Inn...they only enforce the parking restrictions there during the fishing season...;))

Accommodations at Chena finalized? If not, I can call on Sunday about the local resident rate for a standard room there...

BOB W Mar 3, 2009 11:09 pm

The "Gang of Four" is SeeYa, Monitor+1 & Bob W. You had better show up since you asked a silly question. You are not on the list on page 1. An update is what I was hoping for. The more the merrier (and more wine gets opened). ;) :D I just need to know how many to prepare for.

Your plan for car placement works for me. I'll follow you to the airport then leave my car at the depot. My kids can pick up my car & get it back home.
Monday you will be in charge of transport.

I have a suite at Chena. Sean, Jackal & me works out perfectly.

Sorry. Yes, I'll be there. I'm also available for the Wednesday Missydarlin risotto do. I'll be happy to skip class just for missy! :p

Great!

So was the risotto before or after the MVPG event? (ie- Tues or Wed night?)

Oh yeah... you have a night class... that's right-

Just triple checking... :p

Still tempted to change my ticket to meet in FAI on the 7 PM flight Sunday... and return at 5 Monday using 5K miles (As AS has a fare sale on ANC-FAI right now)

But unsure about working that Monday...

...And getting picked up that late from FAI :p

(And I might jump at the chance to snag a bump on an award ticket - as the planes are packed! :D)
