Spartacus,

Sorry you won't be able to join us.

I just researched my wine on www.cellartracker.com

Robert Parker: "Seamless, provocative, and gorgeously perfumed and flavored is the 2002 Shiraz Covenant. Fashioned from a 30- to 40-year-old Clare Valley vineyard, this 2,000 case cuvee sees more new oak than its siblings. Its black/blue color is followed by a terrific bouquet of creosote, blackberries, scorched earth, chocolate, and espresso aromas. It reminded me of a hypothetical blend of an old style La Mission-Haut-Brion and a mid-seventies Diamond Creek Cabernet Sauvignon. Full-bodied flavors, great intensity, tremendous richness, superb structure, and fine overall balance as well as purity are found in this riveting old vine Shiraz. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2016. 95 points."

Not that a 95 point rating from Robert Parker matters...
Aren't we all concerned with points.

Well, I've got two wines I'm thinking of bringing. One (which I can't find on Cellartracker) is a Beringer 1997 North Coast Zinfandel from the Appellation Collection.

The second is a 1998 Tapestry from Beaulieu Vineyard that pulled as high as a 94 on Cellartracker with these comments:

Wonderful, full-body Napa Style! definately time to drink. If you have any, don't hold any longer. Ours kept beautifully. smooth as silk, rich grape, black cherry, currant. Don't miss this one!

Will these cut it for the dinner?

Sure will. As I mentioned to stockmanjr earlier today, it's all about the miles and points first, followed closely by good wine.

Maybe the BRT should have assigned seating for wine discussion.

Don't they serve wine in the front cabin?

OK, I should probably officially pull out of this one--will be back in NY by dinner, but I'll probably need some sleep and my liver will likely need a rest.

Enjoy!

We are leaning toward bringing a bottle of 2006 Orin Swift The Prisoner for our second bottle. I was trying to track down a bottle of the 2005 vintage, but no luck so far.

Calcifer, I was expecting you to bring a French red and a report on the wines from your morning in the PREM+ cabin (vs. BIZ on your way out)! Might you at least come and join us for dinner and storytelling?

2006 Orin Swift The Prisoner 91 Wine Spectator

2005 = 93 Wine Spectator

Just for the sake of argument, if I could get my hands on a 2005, what additional things would you offer in trade.

imHo, emphasis on HUMBLE, neither is ready to drink...3-4 years for the '05 and up to ten years of aging left for the '06..again my very humble opinion, no offense intended

No offense taken. We may seek out something else then, if that would be preferred. Dan, I actually think that I may have my hands on a 2005 soon -- but not before our trip to NYC.

An alternative: 2004 Erath Pinot Noir Prince Hill.

More for the FT theme than for something truly special, there's 2005 R Wines Shiraz Boarding Pass.

Then that's settled. Here's the winery's tech sheet for this wine.

Since I have a cigar to deliver to Mr. Hammer from Fredmartens I may ask if there's room for one more Cat. The menu and the prices look good and if I'm coming to the city I might at least take a break from MEOW MEOW for some good company.

I'll have to check my wine cellar and see what I can offer. I think I have a Caliteria from 2003 (which is a cab.)

There's one CLASSIFIED wine I cannot bring... that's for a very very very very special occasion.

this is shaping up to be amazing, i can't wait!

question: will there be cigars afterwards?

also, i'm thinking of going over to HoB during the day and picking up something additional to bring to the table, if anyone wants to come along and oogle at the wines..maybe swing by sherry-lehmann too..
