1st Locks of Love Donation "DO" - Summer '08

Greetings FTer's,

Kipper and I wanted to pitch this out to our FTer family to see if there is any interest in having a "Locks of Love" 'DO' this summer. If there is an interest we will coordinate a "DO' in a "Hub" city making it easy to get flights and accommodations.

GUIDELINES: HOW TO DONATE (taken from Locks of Love web site)

10 inches measured tip to tip is the minimum length needed for a hairpiece.
Hair must be in a ponytail or braid before it is cut.
Hair must be clean and completely dry before it is mailed in.
Place the ponytail or braid inside of a plastic bag, and then inside of a padded envelope.
Fill out the hair donation form, or write your name and address on a separate sheet of paper and include inside the envelope.
All hair donations must be mailed to Locks of Love at:

2925 10th Avenue N
Suite 102
Lake Worth, FL 33461-3099
Please be sure to use the entire zip code when mailing. Thank you!

If there is an interest, we will try to recruit a "famous" hair stylist to do the cutting and styling for all FT members participating and then mail all donations to Locks of Love together under FlyerTalk. If you are a "famous" hairstylist or go to a "famous" hairstylist, we welcome that information.

If this is something you have been considering, please join us! Use these next months to start growing your donation.

Great idea! Unfortunately I don't have 10" to donate. But I do believe that missydarlin does this. Hope others can get in!

Cheers.

There were more than a few shocked faces when a well trimmed guy walked into SeaDoo last year claiming to be Spiff. I think you missed getting his mane by about six months or so.:D

ILeftMyHeartInTexas Feb 12, 2008 8:46 am

Think we need to send Spiff a challenge? He could start taking some heavy duty vitamins and grow his hair back out in time to join us for our first "Locks of Love" FlyerTalk DO!

We are talking several months! :)

SkiAdock, I did read that they accept hair shorter than 10". I don't believe this hair is used for the wigs, but is sold. I believe in reading they use this money to keep things running. Just an idea for those of you who are close are just want a short summer cut! :)

This is going to be so much fun!

Great idea, but I've already made my appointment. Donation #3 happens on March 6th.

And honestly, "famous" or not... no one touches my hair... especially when its as extreme as lopping off 12", except my own stylist.

Cool coincidence. I need to cut my hair this year; it'll be my third donation for Locks of Love.

I might not have 10 inches by summer, though, so it's nice to know they'll take a little less than that.

Add me to your list of participants!

Your hair stylist sounds exactly like one we should all use. (do you think he/she would want to take us all on?)

I am the same way with my hair, especially since the change will be so dramatic!

I just measured my hair, pulled back in a ponytail, and have 12". Can't wait to see what I have by the time we do this! :) Does the middle/end of August sound good for this?

It could end up being a sub-set of the Seattle Do :)

I dunno if I can wait...

I am definitely going to do Locks of Love haircut, and I set Valentine's Day as my deadline.

Work, and life, has gotten in the way of my deadline but I am still very committed to doing it.

My only problem is that I dunno if I can wait until August. I am tempted to get a couple of inches cut in the meantime and then do the big cut in August?!?

In the meantime, I will be watching this thread! :)

I'm getting mine trimmed this week, so I understand! :)

If you wanted to do it as part of SeaDoo weekend, I could certainly discuss it with my stylist. I think his partner does makeup too.

kipper Feb 12, 2008 8:01 pm

I know the SeaDoo weekend won't work for me. That's the weekend I'm in a wedding! :D

ILeftMyHeartInTexas Feb 13, 2008 1:53 pm

I am so excited about the response so far, this is too cool!

Maybe the first step we should take is to look at
1. dates
2. location
3. available stylist

I apologize if I am taking things out of order, this is my first "DO" to ever be a part of. I am more than happy to receive PM's regarding the above mentioned.

By the way, just pulled my hair in a pony and measured. I have 12", but like all of you, plan on having it trimmed (barely) in the next couple weeks.

Previous Engagement:

July - first week is booked for me Washington DC area (seeing Kipper and watching son in ID parade) open to do it in that area

August 6 - 16th - Hawaii (we could do it there as well)

I am available:
May, June and the other weeks in July as well as the end of August

Sorry the SeaDoo weekend doesn't work. Keep pitching out ideas.

An idea for this year: how about something that might coincide with the 10th Anniversary of FT? I think there might be a party in COS in June?!?

And maybe we could consider doing a "Locks of Love" Do as an annual event, say the week before Valentine's Day in a fun city like LAS or SAN? Maybe make 'the cut' at 4:00pm on a Thursday, allowing us to travel in that day, and leave Friday night - or extend it into the weekend?

Just ideas. :-: I hope it gets off of the ground!
