For each of you who have participated in the past, I encourage you to try and "enlist" a new participant for this year....

I would love to see us double the participation this year!

GO FOR IT!!!!

I could EASILY be recruited..... I'm all about presents. So somebody needs to recruit me. I'll wait.......:D

ho ho ho--pm sent!

i'm in! thanks to wharvey for doing this again, it was great fun last year. ^

as a side note---i'm never sure, are you supposed to 'out' yourself to your giftee or not? last year i didn't, but the person who gifted me did, which i thought was kind of cool...what does everyone else do?

Well, since you asked :p, Depending on how many mailing I do for my giftee, I eventually tell them who played Santa. ;)

As for me, on the receiving side, 4 out of 6 have identified themselves. The other 2 either cheaped out or sent gifts that they didn't want to be associated with.

Besides the couple of people that don't send a gift (as promised), Santa should make a second list of those folks that didn't get in the spirit of the holiday. By the way, I do work for Santa; and yes, I'm watching.

< off soapbox now.

Thanks for organisng this.

Hi everyone,

OK. So, I am a relative newbie to the list and definitely for the secret santa.
Can I ask, what kinds of gifts have you given/received in the past?

Was it worth participating?

Anyone have any particularly cool or not-so-cool stories to share about participating?

Take a look at the prior year SS threads (links are in the first post of this thread). As gifts are received, people usually report on what is received / appreciated / etc, so look toward the end of the threads.

Once you sign-up and receive the name of your 'giftee', you can search his/her posts to get an idea of what airline they fly, type of travel (some are weekly business travelers, others twice a year leisure), possibly even a posted 'favorite vacation spot' or 'dream' destination, etc. that might give you additional ideas to find the perfect gift.

Likewise, some people will give very useful hints in their information. The gifts don't have to be related to travel, although people tend not to complain if it is. :)

ok, I've pm-ed OP twice with my SS info and am still not on the list! (I think I did it correctly the 2nd time?) Help!

OK... we have some impatient people... please reread the original post... I update the list on occasion... and you can see the last edit date on the post itself... if you sent your information AFTER that date, then you can expect your name is not on the list yet... :)

So, I just took some time and have updated the list... if you are not on it now, please resend your info. I know I have at least four people I sent messages to because you did not follow the directions... please get back to me if you want to participate.

William

wharvey Nov 5, 2007 5:32 pm

Gang,

Santa hopes to get assignments out by this next weekend.... if you have been waiting to join, DO IT NOW! :)

kevinsac Nov 5, 2007 5:56 pm

I was about to send my PM to wharvey......but can someone give ideas of what type of gifts have been sent in the past. Or, does it run the whole gamut?

cheers--K

It runs the whole gamut. I've received SPG50's and other hotel certificates. I've had secret santas who really hit it out of the ballpark and gave me my best Christmas presents those years, from anyone, including my family (and family is supposed to know what you like). Those have humored my taste for history and good beer, or who really paid attention to my hints and my posts on other threads.

wharvey Nov 6, 2007 5:37 am

If you read the other year Santa threads, you will see that many people have posted what they received....

I agree with Kipper... they run the spectrum.... Some have received gifts they believe came off the clearance table :( to major gifts... United systemwide upgrade (I gave that one year) to other major gifts.

One of my best gifts actually came from an FT who did not participate in Secret Santa... but wanted to recognize Santa for his coordination of the extravaganza. I think fondly of that FTer every time I look at the gift. :)

William

wharvey Nov 6, 2007 5:55 am

Updated with all the entries I received yesterday.

William

I've enjoyed all of my gifts, but there were some that the person put a ton of thought into it to personalize the present to what I'd love.

FlyingRobot Nov 6, 2007 6:53 pm

Sent you a pm... ^

Thanks for organizing this!

KSinNYC Nov 7, 2007 3:38 pm

I have been quite happy with the gifts I've received. I think I have also sent pretty good gifts (and I have even played 'replacement Santa' for people that found themselves gift-less).

I haven't identified myself as Santa, nor did I always know who my Santas were. I would just encourage people to post on the thread when they receive their gift -- it's a nice way to say thank you and it's fun to see what everybody gets.

idealflyer Nov 8, 2007 8:48 am

Okay, PMed OP so I am in. Just awaiting confirmation and to find out who the giftee will be. Oh the anticipation! Feel like a kid the night before Christmas.:D This was fun last year, thanks again to wharvey!

wharvey Nov 8, 2007 9:51 am

Gang,

I have almost finished all the initial assignments.... if you still want to get in, let me know quickly.... any entries received after NOON Boston time tomorrow... will not get assigned until I get back from New Zealand.

Also, for those of you who already joined and show up in the second post... if you saw anyone the list you would like assigned to you let me know by tomorrow at noon also. I know lots of people signed up after you submitted your original lists... so want to be flexible.

William

This is good news Santa. As you know, all the elves in my workshop have been working on overdrive this year due to a few recalls of Chinese made toys. Needless to say, my elves aren't happy.

We will be ramping up Santa's workshop to provide all the goodies the good folks listed on page 1 of this thread will need. Last year, we even provided paper to print the various certs that will come your way. ;)

In case you're wondering where we are  check this out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Pole

And for the reading impaired... http://www.arctic.noaa.gov/gallery_np.html

For Randy and other folks from Colorado... http://www.santas-colo.com/

kevinsac Nov 8, 2007 2:53 pm

Thanks, William, for coordinating this.....again! ^ I'm in, and looking forward to participating. I already have some ideas on gifts to send, all depending on whose name is drawn for me.

cheers

TIMP Nov 9, 2007 12:49 am

YAH! This hopefully means that I can expand my shopping arena from the local area to London if the info arrives before I leave on the 22nd!

UCBeau Nov 9, 2007 1:55 am

I know I can't wait to get my assignment(s) and get to shopping :D
