Thumbs up San Francisco MEGA-DO 2007 - September 14-16

Greetings FlyerTalkers,

It's been a long and bumpy road up to this point, but with just under two months to go, I think we're finally ready to finalize plans for the San Francisco MEGA-DO 2007.

From a tour of the United Maintenance Hangar at SFO, to a grand dinner at one of San Francisco's finest Italian restaurants, we're sure you'll be impressed. Please join us from Friday, September 14th to Sunday, September 16th for this event.

We have set up an official DO website at sfdo.wordpress.com where you can catch a calendar of events, read official MEGA updates and pay the DOposit securely through Google Checkout. Info on the deposit and more can be found on the official website and in the posts below.

Once you pay the deposit, your name will be moved from the Definitely to the Confirmed list. And you know Confirmed is where you all want to be, because only by paying the deposit at least two weeks before the date are you guaranteed your very own MEGA-DO souvenir package!

On the official DO website you’ll find:
The Schedule
The Attendance List (Paid / Definitely / Shades of Maybe)
Deposit Information
Recommended Hotels and Hotel Map

Make sure you head on over to sfdo.wordpress.com to confirm your spot and get on the mailing list. We will be sending out weekly updates until the day of the DO, keeping you informed of who is staying where, potential activities during "unscheduled" time and letting you in on some of the DO's little secrets.

Thanks everyone! We are all REALLY looking forward to this long-in-the-making event.

Your hosts,
lucky9876coins, Wireless and xj47

Note: This thread is a clean-up and refresh of the much messier, much longer thread found here. We ask that in order to make the thread and the DO less intimidating to newcomers (not even I can handle a 400 post thread), you please bring your discussion over here. Mods, please close the other thread. Thanks!

SUB-DO #1:

The wonderful kalkat lives in Larkspur, a 30-45 minute ferry ride from the Ferry Building at the foot of Market Square. She has generously offered to invite a limited number of FT'ers to her house for a deck gathering to socialize, eat, and of course talk miles & points on Saturday!

We will be taking the 12:30PM ferry and be returning on the 5:30PM ferry (here is the schedule), getting us back in time for the dinner. Transporation will be provided from the dock in Larkspur to kalkat's home. It should be a fantastic time!

If you would like to attend please PM kalkat. Attendance is on a first come first serve basis, and is open only to those that are confirmed (meaning those that have paid for the Do!).

SUB-DO #2:

12172003 will be offering bay area scenic flights at approximately 10AM, 11:30AM, 1:30PM and 3PM on Saturday, September 15. Don't complain about no predeparture drinks, delays, etc. Please email 12172003 your desired time, the number of people, and the weight of each person. Flights are out of San Carlos (KSQL), just south of the San Mateo Bridge. Driving is easiest. Park at 795 Skyway Blvd, San Carlos, CA 94070 (no charge) near the base of the control tower. The flight will be in a Piper Cherokee Archer and take about an 1:15 and include flying over the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, San Francicso (Trans America Building, etc.). The flight is weather permitting (ie visible conditions) although 12172003 is instrument (IFR) rated. The price is $33 per person for the 1.25hr flight.

SUB-DO #3:

Rudling has offered to charter a yacht and take us sailing on Saturday. Please see this post for more details. If you are interested, please contact rudling directly or post here.

You know, that CORPORATION really hates us FTers.

PS - Whoa, when I saw that thread lock on my subs page, I thought the whole thing had fallen apart.

Now now, let's be nice. I have no clue which corporation you are talking about. Are you confirmed yet?

For $4.99, it sounds like it'll pretty much just be a BoB box. Or are you stealing a lot of headsets too?

Nice? I am being nice! Come to think of it, are there any corps. that like us?

Scary thing about BoB is that most, if not all, of it's shelf-stable so lucky and xj may very well be hoarding. And between those two, lots of headsets could be acquired in 3-4 months.

I want a genuine poly plaid blankie with that special smell! An odor like no other.

What's up with the pricing? I don't want to make any accusations, but it seems like there's a discrepancy.

Package #1 includes dinner at the Thirsty Bear for $25 and the souvenir package for $4.99. Both are calculated into the final price of $79.99.

Package #3 includes dinner at the Thirsty Bear and the souvenir package for a total final price of $24.99.

So, it would appear that the souvenir package is not calculated into package #3 whereas it is in package #1. Also, the figures are fairly conveniently rounded to $x.99. Why is that?

Sorry, I'm just a natural born skeptic. Please help me become less skeptical.

Hmm, that appears to be a mistake them, let me look into it and talk to xj47 about it, since he did that, I believe.

The fact that it's $X.99 is a bit of a joke, I believe, sticking with the general "it can be your's for under $80" mentality. (correct me if I am wrong, xj47) Instead of charging $5 we are charging $4.99. Fun, isn't it?

Update: OK, corrected. Google checkout was charging the right amount. Thanks for the heads up.

xj47, Can you add a blerb on the website to address transportation? Just wondering if a rental car is suggested or if most things are near BART stations or Downtown.

Thx,
Jeff
