Frankfurt Advents Do 30 November - 02 December 2007

Second Frankfurt Advents DO
30 November – 02 December 2007

After lasts years Advents Do we were asked if and when the next Advents Do will take place. After some planning, we now could proudly announce the second Frankfurt Advents DO on 30 November – 02 December 2007.

As last year, we will update this post every now and then. Depending on the number of attendants we will finally decided if everything can be done as planned by the end of October / Beginning November.

Here is the schedule for this weekend.

Friday, 30 November 2007

the Do will start with Dinner

Dinner
Dinner will take place in EDMW at 19:00. The offer cocktails as well as Asian / Thai dishes.

I will leave the Intercontinental at 18:35 for edmw. If you want to join us on the way there, feel free to meet us in the lobby of the Intercontinental at 18:30. I will have for sure a flyertalk luggage tag with me.

Pick up at the Westin will be around 18:50

Saturday, 01 December 2007

During this time, the Frankfurt Christmas Market takes place. If you are looking for some presents, you could stroll over Christmas Market on Saturday afternoon and enjoy a glass of Glühwein or warm “Appelwoi”. There are several nice cafés to have a cup of coffee or tea, visit one of the many museums or just relax in your hotel. We will post some information about exhibitions in the Frankfurter museums in this time in the next couple of weeks if they are available.

09:45
Meeting point in front of the Intercontinental in Frankfurt (next S-Bahn stop is Hauptbahnhof)
Adress is WILHELM-LEUSCHNER STRASSE 43, 60329 FRANKFURT.

We will leave at 10:00 for the tour from the Intercontinental.
Stop at bus track 23 at the Fraport around [10:29]for pick up of people arriving by train / plane and will not make it downtown in time.

10:00 to 15:30
tour of LHbase by LH (See post #280 of LHrelate and many thank for organising this event ^)

FRALH will host a tour of the base followed by a lunch reception. After lunch there will be time for Q&A with some senior executives. Shuttle bus pick-up and drop-off at a meeting point tbd will be provided.

Schedule
09:50 meet at InterContinental hotel (bus pick-up point)
10:00 leave IC
10:15-10:20 pick-up at bustrack 23 FRA Airport
10:30-11:00 security clearance/check-in LAC
11:00-13:00 guided base tour
13:00-15:00 lunch/Q&A
15:30 bus drop-off at IC

LHrelate posted in this post (#280, #327 and #335)the following information

I've been asked for my input on the menu, so if anyone has any special dietary considerations (ie vegetarian) I need to know as soon as possible so these can be accommodated.

Menu:
Starter:
Autumn style salad with grapeseeddressing and caramelized apple splits and chestnuts

Soup:
Nutmegpumpkin soup with fresh ginger and fried scallop

Mains:
Dittmarscher style roast goose with fig chutney, (european) cranberry, plums, red cabbage and potato dumplings.

Vegi alternative (only 3 available)
Eggplant tartlets with mozarella cheese and mediterranean vegtebles sided with safroongnocchi

Dessert:
Pyramidcake pudding with maccadamia icecream and roastapple foam

If you are interested in attending the event, please let me know by PM at your earliest. I will keep a running list and will post more details (ie menu, agenda, meeting point, scheduled speakers) as they become available. I will also request the personal data for security end of next week after I return from FRA.

Bus pickup at bus track 23 at FRA airport at 10:15 is possible. Please do not bring luggage as it will need to be checked-in like for a flight and this will also prevent our using the bus on the grounds of the base (it's cold and I don't want to walk so much :P).
location of bus track 23:

Bustrack 23 is situated: Terminal 1, Arrival Area A, cross the street twice.

Just in case it's needed, luggage storage is possible at FRA (Info)

Between the returning from the tour and the visit of christmas market is free time.

Drinks
18:00

We will head to the Christmas Market after the LH tour.
But instead of a booth we go to Alten Limpurg
location
. For all attendees of last years Advents Do, this is the same place where we had the Glühwein last year.

We will leave Weihnachtsmarkt for the restaurant round about 19:00 and walk together to the restaurant (app. 15 minutes walking distance). It would be possible to take a taxi from there to the restaurant. Dinner

We have a reservation for 19:30 at Restaurant Dauth-Schneider which is in the Sachsenhausen area. And they accept credit cards (Mastercard and Visa for bills over 30 EUR)

Sunday, 02 December 2007

12.00 am

Advents Brunch in the Frankfurt Airport Sheraton (39 EUR / person)
Meeting points will be the lobby of the Sheraton at 11:45.

!!! You could earn SPG Points for Brunch, so bring your SPG Card with you !!!

I will leave the Intercontinental round about 10:50. You have to catch the S 9 leaving the main station on track 103 (underground track) at 11:31 latest to be on time (arriving at 11:50 at the Sheraton)

Parking at the airport
If there is anybody who will come to the Sheraton on Sunday morning by car (yes, I know, this is a Flyertalk DO), please send me a PM before November 20th. The Sheraton has offered to reserve a place in the garage for 3.50 EUR / hour. If you need a place for your car, send me a PM with the number of the license plate. The parking in the Airport Center parking lot (follow signs to P4 / Airport Center -> Sheraton).

We have to limit the number of attendees for Saturday to 45 (+/-) and Sunday to 40 (+/-). The Frankfurt Airport Sheraton is nearly fully booked for the brunch and therefore I was only able to get a table for 40 (+2). And Dauth-Schneider is not so big that they can host an event with an unlimited number of flyertalkers.

If I have counted correct we are right now

Friday: 26
Saturday: 44
Sunday: 35

This means everybody who has signed up so far has a seat. But for the rest, hurry up ....

If there are cancellations, we might be able to offer latecomers a seat. So feel free to post if you are there and we will see if we can get you a seat.

Public transportation
If one take S-Bahn from airport into downtown is level 4 (Preisstufe 4)

Single Journey 3.55 EUR / dayticket 8.40 EUR

The dayticket will also cover downtown Frankfurt (area 5000 on the ticket vending machine,. airport is 5090).

If you take public transportation from the airport into Frankfurt and think you will use the subway again, I would recommend a day pass (a ratio would be if you make three single journeys a day, than a day pass is cheaper).

Saturday is depending on the location of your hotel, if you need a day pass. But a day pass covering area 5000 will be sufficient, since we have a bus service to the airport. Again the ration is three single rides are more expensive than a day pass
Single Journey in downtown Frankfurt is 2.20 EUR / dayticket is 5.40 EUR

The ticket for Sunday has to include the airport area again. If you leave after brunch from the airport and do not return, I recoomend a single ticket.

Frankfurt Tourism

Hotels

All major hotel chains have hotels in Frankfurt. Public transportation is very good, so even hotels a bit far away from city centre (e.g. ArabellaSheraton Kongreß; Holiday-Inn City South Conference Center) are not really a problem.

Count me in, definitely for Saturday and Sunday, maybe for Friday.

Though it is a bit too soon for me to think about Christmas...

Yes, count me in also as a Definitive. Just a short jump with OS from SZG to FRA and I can flee from our famous "Salzburger Christkindlmarkt" with too much people at SZG to this time.

It's AWESOME you're doing this again!! Put me as a maybe for now, and I'll start looking into flights.

I'll also start looking into getting Friday off of work, so I can get there sooner this year, anticipating the Chicago winter delays that held be up last time.

And, yep, it's a GREAT way to throw in a few extra SPG points.

I've just booked the Le Meridien on a flexible rate for 95 Euros. Not bad. We'll see what else turns up, but this is a good fallback position.

A big thank you to our hosts for organizing this again and posting several months in advance. I had a great time last year. Please put me down as a Definite Maybe. I note there will be different restaurants this year. And I had just learnt how to take the U-Bahn to Malepartus!

Perhaps May 11 may be considered a special day for all of us on this thread! :-: :-:
