A good place to start is Pet Sitters International: http://www.petsit.com/home.asp

Type in your zip code and they will list reputible services who can help.

YOu can also check out Craig's list where a lot of pet and house sitters advertise.

Good luck though finding a sitter. I have a cat sitting services and told my clients in ealry Sept if you need me for Christmas/Thanksgiving book early!

MOst pet sitters are insuranced and bonded and can be trusted.

Good LUck
Thanks for the suggestion. And yes part of the problem is this is so last minute - previous plans fell through last minute. Also the craigs list option is fine but it would be inviting a total stranger into our house. I feel a lot better about an FTer. And it seems in this case it was a win-win with MapleLeaf.

Alec,

It sounds like your pet-sitting needs will be met for this trip. If you ever get into a bind in the future, the animal shelter where I volunteer (see my signature) is also a vet's office which has a boarding kennel, and it's not too far from Beverlywood (around the corner from the Beverly Hills Public Library). OK, it's not exactly a 5-star hotel even though it is in Beverly Hills, but I believe their rates are reasonable, and I would make sure they got a lot of attention on weekends when I'm there.

As much as I would like them, my only time in LA over the next few days will be spent at the LAX RCC, but I'm sure you'll have fun without me

Thumbs up

Just an update - I would like to thank both MapleLeaf and skywalkerLAX for housesitting for us. I can recommend them both as truly honest and reliable people, although I had never met them before they housesat for us.

And our two boys (Ozzy and MacGyver) want to thank them too! ^

I feel truly fortunate that I can turn to a community like FT and be able to find people to whom I can entrust my home. Some would say I am more trusting than others.

P.S. And they even managed to clean the place up after all the partying
