LAX lunch/dinner Dec3?
Flying MR from BHM to LAX. Will be at there 11am to 11pm on 12/3. Any FT folks who might want to meet for drinks/dinner?

I should be able to make it... Working 8-5 on the westside, unless something changes.
|
I think I could be able to make it. Maybe I could squeeze a mattress run in one of the LAX Starwoods that night but I'm not sure...
Any idea on where we could possibly gather and chow? |
DHAST has suggested a good/cheap mexican place near LAX. He has been there before with a FT group. How does that sound to everyone?
Mark D. |
There are 2 cheap Mexican places that FTers go to - someone will need to specify which one. That's a Sunday; not sure of my schedule yet. I'll keep an eye on the thread. If it's Pancho's (which is approximately 1 minute walk from my place, I might be able to make it ;) ). Also, you all need to post a time. Cheers.
|
Waiting for name of place from DHAST. Will provide details as soon as I have them or maybe he will post them here directly. Pancho's would be fine with me. I will have plenty of time to kill waiting for my return flight.

I'd like to drop by for lunch, but I'm on AA 242 to JFK @ 215p, and have a pre-HS thing with my daughter before that. So, I guess I"m hoping for a delay...after the upgrade clears (of course!).

Will be arriving back late on Sunday from BNA....... sorry to miss another "close-by" FT dinner :(
|
We did this:
Paco's Tacos 6212 W. Manchester Blvd. (bet. La Tijera & Sepulveda Blvds.) Westchester, CA 90045 310-645-8692 a couple of weeks ago. The price is right, and the location is good. Considering I'm on a "get up late" schedule these days, it is a bit closer to me than M.B. is, even though I don't have to work that night. Given that it was only me, DHAMMER, lisamcgu, and FH (who hasn't expressed interest this time around) I can do a repeat. I'd say 7:30p for dinner, but that's just my preference. |
El Tarasco is in that same area. In fact, right across the parking lot. If you were game for another good Mexican restaurant.

Either one is OK with me. Just post here so I know where to go. Any suggestions on what to do at LAX from 11am to 7pm? I'll be killing time waiting for my return flight at 11pm that night.
|
I ma possibly in for dinner near LAX
Plans still pending, but I may be able to attend. Will advise when I know more.
Hope to be there! |
Tina,
El Tarasco sounds good to me. Please post the address? |
Here you go: Menu looks a little on the older side or perhaps from another location, but you get the gest.
El Tarasco 8620 S Sepulveda Blvd Los Angeles, CA (310) 338-0399 http://www.menupix.com/losangeles/re...php?id=202362# Yep.. Menu is from the Manhattan Beach location.... |
OK, El Tarasco it is. Sunday, December 3 at 7:30pm. They do have beer and margaritas, don't they?
Mark D. |
There's also an El Tarasco 45 seconds from me & 15 seconds from Pancho's ;) :D Can't speak for the other ElT's but the one near me does not have beer/margaritas. But it's a very small place - more like a diner, which might be why. I haven't been to Pacos Tacos in a while, but I remember not being that thrilled w/ it when I went w/ FTers.
I'm waiting to hear if I'm meeting a friend that night who's in from out of town for just a couple of days, so definitely don't plan around me. Go w/ what works best for everyone. med81, if I had a long layover like you do I would get a really cheap car rental (someone once posted you can get very cheap via Priceline) & get out of the airport etc. That gives you lots of options re: your free time & even if it's only from noon-6pm, still beats hanging out at the airport. Alternatively you can take the Big Blue Bus (do a search on the LA forum) & head up to Santa Monica. Cheers. |

Mark D. Yep. It does! That said, I don't think the margaritas are made of "quality" ingredients. The food is good tho! It is small. I never did like Pacos too much. I have never been to Ponchos, so whatever final decision made is ok with me. I'm working 10-7p now, so 7:30 should work nicely for me, unless something changes. I've done the "bus" thing several times from LAX to the westside, after a weekend trip, straight to work. If you don't want to rent a car (although, Sharon's idea is a good one), Mark, you could take the "LAX shuttle airline connection bus" (under blue sign in middle island) to lot C, exit the bus at the off site rental car lot (1st stop), and walk back to the LAX public bus transportation center. It is located about 1/2 block back the same street (98th ave). Depending on where you want to go, both the "big blue bus" and the "green monster" (Culver City bus) pick you up there. The Culver City bus #6 (toward UCLA) goes right by the Howard Hughes Entertainment Center. There are several restaurants (Islands, Maria Callendars Grill, Johnny Rockets, Subway, etc), a mega movie theatre called "The Bridge", and some stores. I work in the surrounding buildings, and would be able to give you a ride to dinner. Perhaps, a tour of a horseracing television network, might be possible. For that matter, if your into horseracing, Hollywood Park is meet is going on. First post 12:30p, last race approximately 5:30p, not too far from the airport. They have a casino on site too, if you like cards. Plenty of cabs around there, as well. Just an alternative idea to the usual LA scene. |
Thanks Tina. El Tarasco sounds fine to me.
The bus to the Entertainment Center sounds like a good plan. The tour of the horseracing television network sounds interesting if you can arrange it. I have some experience in a former career with video production and editing and would be interested in seeing the operation. Is there a way to get in touch with you when I get there? You can PM me if you don't want to post anything here. Mark D. |
Just bumping to keep this going. 3 more days until the DO. :D
|
Just looked at the clock & realized you're meeting in 10 minutes. I'm too knackered (tired) after a full weekend to drive over. Hope you have a good time! Cheers.

Bit funny that, given you started the thread med81! What happened to the 11am-11pm layover? Cheers.

Perhaps a courtesy post or call, would have been cool too.....

I should have turned on my cell phone and called you to let you know I would not be there. I promise to do better in the future. It was my first MR and as you can tell from my post count I am still pretty new around here. I usually fly 60 to 65K miles per year and this will be the first time to make DL platinum thanks to the LAX MR I just did. My return was booked for the 11pm redeye back to Atlanta, but none of the flights were full that day so I walked off the plane and less than 30 minutes later I got back on the same plane headed back to ATL from LAX. The DL GA was very helpful in assisting with the LAX ATL return and the connection from ATL to BHM, but was only able to confirm me on an 11pm from ATL to BHM even though I knew there was a much earlier flight for that segment. I got lucky in ATL and the BHM flight was leaving from the same terminal where I arrived from LAX so I went directly to that gate and the GA was again very helpful and just sent me on the plane to "take any empty seat". I was back in BHM by 8pm. I am headed to PIT next week and hope to meet some FT folks down the road somewhere. Mark D. med81 |
