In the Jewish religion, there's an expression that you should live to be 120. Well, I'm now halfway there. :o

I just want to take the time to thank all my friends here on Flyertalk. Many of us go back a long ways. Flying, eating, drinking, and chatting over these many years on FT. This is one special group. ^

You folks rock.

Dan

Let's also add a little Irish and wish that you make it to Heaven at least a half hour before the Devil knows you're dead.

Dan's post-birthday might not be as happy as he expects. He is on his way to Israel right now (or will be in a few hours) for a visit. He is going to find that he picked a very bad time.

*A heat wave started today and will continue for the next week or so. It is more like summer here right now than spring, and summer is not the nicest time to be anywhere in the Mideast.

*The south of the country is being hit by a plague of locusts. Trying to walk through a swarm of these things is not a fun thing to do. (On the other hand, they are kosher, so Dan can eat them if he wants.)

*Obama will be arriving for a 3 day visit on March 20. Israel has assigned 10,000 police for his security (in addition to his own entourage of 500 people) and there are going to be major traffic jams in Jerusalem and also on the highway between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.

If I can deal with Presidential traffic in NY, I certainly can deal with it in Eretz (or is that Midinat) Israel. ;) :p

For those of you that don't understand, some Israelis refer to the Land of Israel (more religious), while others refer to the State of Israel (less religious). Either way, it's a political statement that I enjoy making when in Israel. It guarantees to turn heads, depending on you I'm talking to.

Correction: "Eretz Yisrael" refers to the Biblical land of Israel. This would include the West Bank but NOT Tel Aviv.

"Medinat Yisrael" refers to the current state of Israel and would include Tel Aviv but not the West Bank.

You are, however, right when you say that Eretz Yisrael is more important to the very religious while Medinat Yisrael is what is crucial for the secular Israelis.
