Post the Most Memorable Mileposts and Threads on FlyerTalk — With Links, Please...
In your opinion, what is the best milepost in FlyerTalk history?
What is the best thread in FlyerTalk history? Perhaps it was extraordinarily valuable information which resulted in you reaping a windfall of miles or points. Maybe it was pertinent advice that saved you a lot of money on travel. It may possibly be that thread in this forum which resulted in you making many new friends. Could your choice amongst the best be the most humorous and clever content you have ever read on FlyerTalk? Whatever the reason, please post it in this thread, along with a link to the actual milepost or thread. This milepost was the catalyst that made me wonder which mileposts and threads other FlyerTalk members felt are amongst the best in FlyerTalk history:

What is your favorite milepost or thread on FlyerTalk — or, at least, which mileposts and threads would be amongst the Top Ten in FlyerTalk history? |
I wish it were only one thread. Well, actually, I wish the threads never appeared.
They were those created on 9/11 and showed just how special a community FT is. I'd never find all the links, and I think a few of them have disappeared, but they are never far from thought. If anyone can help me find them I'm sure the newbies would agree. |
since its your thread, canarsie, I'll provide the link to it.
who will be the next FlyerTalker to post ... the OMNI lounge ... its nice to chat with people and I learned alot in this thread. looking forward to the LIVE event in El Paso ^ THANK YOU http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?p=5142124 |

The Mary2E Christmas Story That would be a perfect entry to start this thread, as that thread is an excellent example of demostrating the community spirit of FlyerTalk! |
Some of my all-time favorites seem to be in archives now.
The thread where Pudding Guy first revealed his gig is definitely in the top few. The recent thread in the UA forum where a group of FTers had BenjaminNYC believing he wasn't going to be UGS this year was very funny (and Benjamin proved an awesome sport). An old Delta Revenue Protection thread where someone created a handle in the name of the person who everyone was hearing from in that department was hilarious. Among some of the great FT phrases lines (and sorry I don't know who to attribute them to) are "PremEx envy"; and when discussing the UAL phone line and Catman mentioning he called it and got phone sex. A FTer responded that "getting screwed is not the same as phone sex." I love these funny threads - most of which are unfortunately quite old - because they were great examples of how fun and close the community has been. |
This thread ranks as one of my all-time favorites. It was started shortly after the draconian changes to the DL Skymiles program. Moreover, Ozstamp's post on actuaries stlll makes me laugh.
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=58456 BTW, the above-mentioned thread was the one which brought Canarsie to the attention of the DL community. Good grief: I cannot believe I neglected to mention Rssrsvp He started the thread. ^ |
From the Trip Report Master, QuietLion, "A Week in Phuket"
...I tried to get a coach ticket on United and upgrade with two of my six unused systemwide upgrades that expire March 31, but when I called the 1K line a recording said, “Please hold while we continue to suck,” so I instead called the regular member’s American AAdvantage line where nice agents promptly helped me... |

This is a good thing?!? |
More than anything, Flyertalk has taught me the zen of travel. It's not just about program rules. It's about knowing when to zig and when to zag, and that the mooch matters more than miles. I've probably learned more from PremEx than any other member here, and probably the most famous of his contributions is The Speech. (I also learned quite a bit from Rudi's guerilla tips.)
Classic funny threads include Need 75,000 Miles for Platinum Elite and My second RPU audit.... . People seem to get a lot out of my Status Match Master Thread and What Credit Card Should I Choose? Master Thread. Among the best deals ever on Flyertalk: the Pudding Guy offer, Goldpoints/Valumags, Test Drive a Jaguar and Fly to Europe, Fly the concorde JFK-LHR for $1259 courtesy of Randy, and LatinPass runs. (This list is hardly comprehensive, I mean there's Mexican Hat Dance... 100 Delta miles per dollar at 1-800-Flowers... Goldpoints/Hallmark Gift Certificates.. etc.) Glitches: $20 BA tickets in WT+, the Expedia Tokyo/Osaka Hilton glitch, $61 Iceland tickets.. I think I got the best use out of the $50 Mexicana glitch in business class to PVR (thanks UNITED959!). Finally, without Flyertalk I never would have taken mrs. gleff on this trip for sure. |
Here is Pudding Guy's actual post, detailing the points he got by buying pudding cups. It's fun to read that thread and see familiar FT handles, such as BlondeBomber, letiole, and MileageAddict. Pudding Guy was relatively new to FT, and there was some skepticism about his story. He sent pictures as proof to Randy, who then posted them.
Sadly, the baht run thread became corrupted at some point, and no longer exists. tvl4free thought it up, and it made its way into the Guinness Book of World Records. |
I think the thread that did the most for the Delta community was Dovster's "Unabashed Cholula Spam Thread."
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showt...eferrerid=3941 It brought quite a few of us together. It's demise was terrible and was subsequently replaced by "The Delta Forum Lounge Thread — Everybody is Welcome!" http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showt...eferrerid=3941 The Lounge is fun, a truly great place to visit and relax and Canarsie did a great job in setting it up, but it still does not have the impact and pizazz of the UCS thread. So, my most memorable thread is the UCS thread. |
Another fun thread!
This one is not old. It is running now on the Marriott forum:
"Strange things found when checking in to room" http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showt...eferrerid=3941 |
end of the year - thought i'd bump this up to see if any new editions are worth adding.
I'll start off with a couple from this year: The "Quickest to EXP in 2008" contest! (and Rules review) The "What I Learned at CO DO III" Thread |
Why do so many people hide adult-oriented magazines behind drawers in hotel rooms?
