Happy Birthday, wingless. How have you and your son been doing?

I am doing well! After serving 5 years as a Navy Submariner my son went back to school and just graduated from college with a BA in English Literature and a BA in Creative writing. His graduation was at Angels Stadium less than 2 weeks ago. He is going on to get his Masters in Library and Information Science. His goal is to become a Librarian and a writer as well. I am just me now. It's been a difficult few years but getting through it. That covid thing sure didn't help. LOL!

Thank you for the remembering my birthday it is greatly appreciated. I hope you are doing well too.

He should keep in mind that if he ever goes to work for the federal government, he can get credit for those 5 years in the Federal Employee Retirement System (FERS).

Also the California state and county employee retirement systems under CalPERS may have a similar system where you can "buy back" prior military service to a certain extent, though I am not aware of the specifics or limitations. Something for him to look out for once he earns that second degree.

Yes, and I believe his Navy service will qualify him for a 5-point veterans bonus if applying for a competitive Civil Service position.
