Lynn and I might well jump on a UA cheapie to "anywhere USA" for a fixed low price. We get a straight 25% off these prices too! :

" With our 'All For One America Sale', every United destination in the U.S. is now available at the same great price. Choose from Las Vegas, Chicago, New York or any of over 150 other American cities for just $A1,499* "

I'd probably pick somewhere like Portland Maine so that we can drive into the Canada Maritimes for a week or so, and that would route us via IAD. And max out the miles we get of course. :D

If so April 29 would likely see us in IAD area if we go ahead on this.

Anyone likely to be about then for a dinner maybe?

I recommend you start a separate thread for this April date. It's during the Freddies and an unlikely time for the happy hour, but some folks might be around. Enjoy your pass through IAD and your trip.

Time to think about an April happy hour. Perhaps in the next week or so. I'll be in Asia the last 10 days of April.

A lot of FTers will be gone from DC that weekend since the Brooklyn Tour and the Freddies are on tap. Instead of Portland, ME, may I suggest NYC to ozstamps?
We are still scheduled to work in Fairfax County 14-16 April and if anything is put together for one of those days, we'll almost certainly be there. Maybe ozstamps can schedule his trip to the States about then so we can also sit down with him and insert our 2 cents worth into his planning for the Oz Fest.

Not sure if I am in town on the 29th, but I am interested if I am in town that date.

14-16th works for me :)
29th doesnt :(

Sorry for the false alarm. Lynn and I decided we'll do the Maine/Maritimes drive in the fall as the leaves are so pretty. Hope to see some familiar faces around then. :)

We picked Fargo North Dakota instead for this trip, as weather is nice up there only a few months each year. That routing takes us via ORD and not IAD. And the Dakotas are about the only 2 USA States I have not been to.

I've been to one of the Dakotas, the southern one. I'll never go back. I'm a wanted man in South Dakota.

I was about 20 or 21 & at a public library in Rapid City, S.D.. We were driving cross-country & were stopping at the library to use free internet & research some hostels. I had brought my bag in the library with me since it had my maps, papers, etc. I had accidently (truthfully - this was NOT intentional) put a US hostels guide in my bag & didn't realize. When I walked out of the library, the alarm rang (the book had a sensor on it). The librarian asked to see my bag & I complied (I didn't think I had anything in there & figured it was a malfunction). My friend Joe was still at the computer checking his e-mail. The librarian found the book & wouldn't believe me that it was an accident & she said "Wait here while I go call the police."

Yeah. Like that was going happen! I grabbed my bag, tossed the book, and took off on foot towards my car. Joe saw the whole thing out of the corner of his eye & didn't know what was going on. I got in my truck & peeled out of there, circled around the block & Joe was standing outside the library confused. I honked the horn & yelled - he jumped in the car & we took off - we saw police cars (with sirens going - they didn't have anything better to do in Rapid City that day, I guess!) pulling into the library as we were speeding away. Doubt I'll ever go back to that state again!

These sort of things only seem to happen to me :(

Never been to South Dakota, but I spent a year outside Fargo one week in 1992... (spent the days at the University of North Dakota, stayed in Moorehead, MN).

Not much to do to kill time in Moorehead. There was a billboard outside the hotel that could be seen from the freeway. While I was staying there a double wedding was going on, and the billboard read something like "Congratulations Barrie & Don, Kim & Something Else." In the middle of the night I went outside and rearranged the letters, "Bend over and kiss my hairy ***"

I changed the sign outside the carwash across the street as well to read "Free Donuts and Coffee"

Oh, and the highlight of the trip was the lounge act at the hotel -- none other than J.J. Walker (Dynomite!). :D

ozstamps Apr 4, 2005 8:08 pm

Sam - I notice there is still a "Wanted" photo of you on the Rapid City Police website. And the reward has gone up to $5,000 over time.

The CCTV photo got you perfectly.

And there is one of gleff there too in Fargo. Barrie & Don and Kim and 12 of their large cousins say they'd like to have a few words with Gary.

All this kind of eastern states fun and games is NOT appreciated by the city fathers there.

For an upgrade Cert each, I'll let you both keep your Police records intact. :D

Pleeese, this is the DC happy hour thread! And this week is slipping away quickly. Anyone want to get together next week? And should we piggyback on the Cubs-National baseball do for a May happy hour? Opinions greatly welcomed.

Sorry, I'm bogged totally at work this week. Next week is a possible for me but unlikely after that. As far as May, definitely just go with whatever is decided for the Saturday get-together and take a month off ;)
