Asia Natural Disaster- Ways to Help

Help those affected by this recent tragedy. WHO estimates 5 million in need of basic supplies. Please share resources on how as a community we can help those affected by the devestation caused in Asia recently. If you know other ways, please post here. Personally, I would like to take the next few months and volunteer somehow. If you know of volunteer opportunities, let me know.

This is only a small list of aid organizations I found on the web that can support the relief effort:
UNICEF www.unicef.org/index3.html http://www.supportunicef.org/site/pp...LdP0G&b=276341

OXFAM

AmeriCares

UN Volunteers

Red Cross

Can also call tollfree- 1-800-HELP-NOW

Network for Good

Was going to donate miles from 1 or 2 of my mileage programs, but am somewhat skeptical if US based airlines would actually use the miles accordingly. Might just debit/credit them off of their books possibly?? :(

Thanks for the links

I often find the sheer number of charitable organizations from which to choose overwhelming. Your concise list helped to narrow the field. I was surprised to find that some of the charities with which I was completely unfamiliar are quite extensive and highly rated. I used a site called Charity Navigator to research them. In the end I chose to donate to Americares, which spends an impressive 99% of its budget on program services and is already actively participating in medical and relief efforts in Asia.

I plan to donate blood to the American Red Cross, as well. I don't know if that will directly impact the efforts in Asia, but it can't hurt.

Thanks for this reminder.
