Lets have a bit of sensitivity here, please. This is certainly shocking news to the FT community... and I think we can do without the editorial commentary. :(

Very sad and shocking news indeed.

Details of the investigation suggest he had been in some pain and trouble for a while. I don't think christep meant anything negative in his comments, just a reminder that people aren't always the happy picture they present.

(sigh)

Sad to find out this is what happened to a well-respected FT'er.

My condolences to his family.

I never met Barton but do know he was a well respected Moderator as well as a valuable poster and friend to many on FlyerTalk.
He will be missed by his friends and family.

I came home to see an instant message from another FT'er regarding B Watson and am truly saddened and in shock. It's ironic as we had just chatted in the last couple weeks regarding the IT job industry. RIP B Watson.

This is awful. We had chatted a couple weeks ago about him coming to Seattle for our dinner on the 3rd. I pm'ed him just yesterday to see if he was still considering coming out. :(

I met Barton a few times here for dinner etc, and like everyone am very sad to read this. :(

I do know he admitted he was in very poor health for a man his age, with a couple of major ailments, and had great difficulty in walking any distance.

He was easily the most travelled person that posts on FT I believe, doing about 850,000 paid flown miles a year in recent years, and how he ever got time to fulfill posting and moderating on FT with that almpost impossible schedule, and running a large company, I will never know.

He posted only a week or two back on UA that his travel had been scaled back enormously and he was greatly looking forward to that.

A warm and friendly and generous Flyertalker, and he will be greatly missed. My condolences to his wife and family.

RIP B Watson... Despite what was alleged, I always respected your appearance on FT.

Condolences to the family.
