Washington DC - 10/29 - 30

Tom911 and ldsant will be in the Washington DC area on Friday, October 29th from 6 PM until Sunday October 31 at 8 AM.

If anybody is around and wants to meet up, please post here. Looking forward to meeting some of the DCer FTers in person!

GoingAway Oct 4, 2004 4:16 pm

I am very much hoping to be home that weekend, but can't guarantee it. If I am there, I would definitely like to get together. I could meet you on Saturday or for brunch on Sunday (will probably be heading out of town that evening).

Let me know.

bhatnasx Oct 6, 2004 10:43 am

I'll be out of town that weekend - going to down to JMU & checking out the fall colors of the Shenandoah Valley that weekend - but I'll add a link from this thread to the Monthly DC Happy Hours thread (that a lot of DC Ft'ers subscribe too). Welcome to DC!

dan1431 Oct 6, 2004 11:37 am

If I am free that weekend, looks like I am right now, I will take Amtrak down to DC to visit.

Dan

Dan-- Would be nice if you can come down. Look forward to catching up with you.

GoingAway-- Sunday is definitely out, as we're both flying back out Sunday morning. Saturday's a possibility. Where would we go?

Saturday works for me - how about dinner? Where are you planning to stay?

dan1431 Oct 7, 2004 5:15 am

FYI:

I went ahead and booked the 3PM Acea Express from NY Penn and grabbed a room at the J.W. Marriott on points.

It will be good to see some Fters again.

What day are you arriving? Can't wait to see you again too.

Going Away - we are not that far in the planning process to actually have rooms. Will email you as soon as we know where that is. Let's plan on meeting up Saturday night for dinner - Alexandria? Does that work for people?

monitor Oct 9, 2004 7:11 pm

Franny and I are most likely to be in Northern VA that Friday and Saturday. If something is brewing in Alex or the District, we would like to attend.
Anyhow, I owe dan1431 the beer that I was going to buy (sic) him at the CRC in EWR last July when he missed his connection coming in from ZRH. Also, I did not realize that he was in attendance at the RoachFest in August until we were walking out to the parking lot after the ballgame. Funny how it is that you converse with people on these boards and get an idea of how they think, but still have no idea of what they look like until you bump into them at a Do, a dinner, or at the airport.

I don't want to leave you in suspense :D Here is a photo of me in front of Starry Nights, taken by ldsant.

This will be an easy one. I have the same color hair and a similar build, so neither of us should stand in front of dan1431 if anybody takes a picture at this dinner (if it happens).

Alysia Oct 10, 2004 10:51 am

And so that tom911 isn't in suspense over who monitor is, monitor is on my photos page.

tom911 Oct 10, 2004 5:52 pm

Yikes! We could be twins :D

dan1431 Oct 11, 2004 1:10 pm

Liz I arrive at 5PM Friday at Union Staton in DC.

I am a 'very vaguely possible' for that weekend. Just not sure if it will gel to a weekend or mid week, it in fact it occurs.

Might do a MIA mileage run via IAD to make 1K again late month, now that a double EQM deal has been offered once again.

naxos Oct 12, 2004 9:59 am

liz-- I may stay in town or might be doing a college search with my daughter. Would love to meet and share some Bali tales. I will see how the weekend is looking.

Arriving DCA 10/29 morning leaving for SDF 10/31 evening, tentatively staying at HR Reston unless there's a reason to change. Therefore, altho as I said earlier, Alexandria or the District would be fine with us, there would also be no objections if the Meet is held further out.

dan1431 Oct 13, 2004 2:51 pm

After playing with fares and the like I was able to find an "A" fare ex EWR for Sunday the 31st so I am actually going to take the train to EWR and fly from there.

Dan

Where is everybody staying, I have 4 hotel reservations in and around the DC area depending on where the majority of people are stayng.

There's a slight chance I might be out of town that weekend, but if I'm here, you can certainly count on seeing me, too! Looking forward to seeing some FT friends again and meeting new (to me) folks. :-:

Looks like a good pick - I like the menu :) ... I'm in.

MileageAddict Oct 28, 2004 9:06 am

Sorry I can't make it. :( The place you've picked to eat looks terrific.

geo1005 Oct 28, 2004 12:12 pm

Good choice... and, alas, only three blcks from my office.

Sorry I can't make it. I don't know why I can't make it other than I've been told by mrs. geo1005 that we are going out to dinner and that we have reservations and that I'll have to dress nicely. But I have NO clue where we are going. Some sort of surprise...

Anyway - have fun! :D

monitor Oct 28, 2004 12:21 pm

Franny and I can be there. See you all on Saturday.

WOW, I just noticed this thread. We will be in D.C. tomorrow night, but don't arrive until 9:00 p.m. into DCA. Where is this place?

Maybe a 10-15 minute cab ride from DCA. Where are you staying?

Punki Oct 30, 2004 9:49 am

We just decided on this trip yesterday morning and will be staying at the Sheraton Pentagon South tonight and then switching to the Hilton Crystal City tomorrow (crazy FlyerTalkers). How late do you think the party will go?

Alysia Oct 30, 2004 10:55 am

I'm a maybe for tonight.

GoingAway Oct 31, 2004 3:28 pm

Liz - Great to finally meet you -- thanks for organizing the dinner. Don't forget to send me that package.

Rich - Great choice of restaurant, just wish there were more parking lots. Thanks again for the space!!

Great meeting up with everyone. :)

dan1431 Oct 31, 2004 5:39 pm

Thank you Liz for organizing this event.

It was nice seeing some familiar faces and meeting some new ones.

Dan

Hunki Oct 31, 2004 7:18 pm

Lliz, thanks for letting us tag in at the last minute. The location and food was great (thanks Rich), company was great as usual. Thanks to Monitor and Franny for the lift back to our hotel.
Punki will post the pics after we get home. It was great to meet Dan for the first time also.
Thanks to Alaska Airlines for some great last minute upgradable fares.

tom911 Oct 31, 2004 8:12 pm

Now that I'm 2,500 miles west of D.C.

A most excellent evening :) Glad meeting some FT'ers that I have not had the opportunity to meet before, as well as some from past get togethers that turned out once again. Outstanding restaurant choice.

I'm back home in the Bay Area, after barely making my MIA-SFO connection (arrived in terminal A, departed from terminal D which seemed like miles away...what a mess). Metro trains were packed this a.m. with folks heading to the Marine Corps Marathon. Wonder if any FT'ers ran in that today?

Punki Nov 1, 2004 4:29 am

It was good to see everyone.

BTW, hanging out on the D.C. Metro at Holloween is a kick!

ldsant Nov 1, 2004 8:55 am

What a fun time! RichLond - thank you for a wonderful reswtaurant suggestion. The food, the company, the place were all great. It was a pleasure meeting people that I've only chatted with and meeting new folks as well. Thanks for coming out everybody!

Punki Nov 23, 2004 8:23 pm

Oy Vey! I just realized that I failed and neglected to post the pictures. Mea culpa.

Here they are.

What a wonderful evening that was.
