How did I miss this? I got the PM, but missed the post. Anyway, count me in - if we're going to Flat Top Grill, one of my favorite places (if it's Manny's, I'll visit the scalpers at the ballpark!).
BTW, Flat Top Grill is a good warm up for the Chocolate Do two weeks later as "The Chocolate Storm" is one of my favorite desserts anywhere: Rich, dark brownie, vanilla ice cream, warm bittersweet chocolate sauce, whipped cream and flakes of shaved chocolate! Heaven on Washington Street! It counteracts all the good you've just done with the stir fried veggies! |

Quite unexpectedly, I ended up at Flat Top tonight. We were headed to La Sardine but she decided she didn't want French bistro after all (bummer, I keep on wanting to go there and try it out). I thought that Flat Top was pretty good but not spectacular, but since I like the concept of pan-ethnic Mongolean barbeque, I'll be very willing to go back. While I felt that their meat and vegetable variety was lacking compared to a similar concept like Cambridge MA's Fire and Ice or a more traditional Mongolean barbeque place, I thought that the overall presentation was better. For example, I liked the fact that they brought up food allergies up front and had everything marked, and had special woks for those with food allergies to avoid cross-contamination. I also liked the fact that they delivered the finished product to your table instead of having to stand around and wait. I had the Chocolate Storm for dessert. Well, I had 1/3 of the brownie and all of the ice cream, sauce, and enough whipped cream to make even Marty happy... ;) I thought it was good but not fantastic, and a bit overpriced at $6. I would have been just as happy with only the Homer's vanilla ice cream and a little bit of chocolate sauce. For that much ice cream and sauce, you need more surface area than that little brownie. |

Actually, I've usually found the brownie big enough for two - wonder what happened. One thing about Flat Top - since you choose everything including the sauces, if it isn't good, you have only yourself to blame. |

It is definitely something sized for two people. |

I share my whipped cream with nobody - well, perhaps one person...

Flat Top for lunch and Byron's on Irving Park for a Slotkowski polish before my train ride home... I might have to look into Orange Line park-n-ride availability. |
