I guess as we often read post count was 'never the reason' for anyone posting on this or the many similar threads, these totals above will surely all pretty much double in the next 4 months? :p

Even though the posts do not NOW count to the user's incremental tally, as far as I can see the number of posts per user per thread still remains visible to all via the link I have posted here. I'll be rather curious to see if the above tallies are doubled in the 4 months come years end. @:-)

I never really did care much about milepost counts, one way or the other.

However, because I am the one who launched the Who Will Be The Next FlyerTalk Member To Post? An OMNI Game thread, I am in favor of the exclusion of increasing one’s milepost count in OMNI because it eliminates the argument once and for all that that thread is used only to pad one’s milepost count.

I have not had a chance to post the latest standings in that thread (let alone answer my private messages and read all of the FlyerTalk threads that I would like to read) just yet, but I have noticed that — despite the new rule now in effect eliminating the ability to increase one’s milepost count in the OMNI forum — posting to that thread by FlyerTalk members does not seem to have decreased in the least, which proves that those who post in that thread are not posting there to increase their post count.

Furthermore, even when no prizes were offered in the game (as prizes are currently offered at the end of every quarter to those who score the most points), the thread was still quite popular.

I like to think that FlyerTalk members post to the Who Will Be The Next FlyerTalk Member To Post? An OMNI Game thread simply because they enjoy it. Everyone else is welcome to post to that thread where virtually everything — including miles, points and travel — is discussed.

Beyond this, milepost counts on FlyerTalk really do not matter much to me. However, milepost counts may matter to vampires who fly frequently...

So what happened to the no post count rule? I can't see if anything has changed.

I see that in the post Ozstamps made that it is currently showing:

Oh, that changed many moons ago, but don't worry, most of the posts that you are quoting were removed from my post count when the above mentioned thread was moved from OMNI to community and back

But all of my 14,000+ posts are still useless :p

Not so sure that is correct at all? (Disclosure - my tally there remains at #1. )

The matter was raised recently by members and TalkBoard is discussing it now, as advised here:

    It is true

Not that everything that Cholula says it's true, but everybody in that thread lost their post count when it was moved ;)

You think, I suspect this thread will be closed soon

First OMNI counted, then it didn't, then it did, and now it might not ;)

Thanks for the bump, underpressure. It's interesting to see how people felt then versus now. The opinion of our Fearless Leader (at least several years ago) is also very telling:

FlyerTalk's original mission and intent was to serve as a place where frequent travelers could exchange, in a positive manner, information and opinions about frequent flyer miles and points and the greater topic of travel. This is still our mission and we want to acknowledge those members who contribute to making FlyerTalk the leading online community of frequent travelers. OMNI, as many of you know, is more of a member requested sideline, and while it serves to build community bonds, it certainly veers from the core FlyerTalk topics.

I wonder if he feels the same way today. I certainly do.

I'm just glad that the passage of time hasn't turned me into a flip-flopper. ;)

Obviously he changed his mind, as posts started counting again ;)

Well some folks certainly have flip-flopped on this idea - IMHO.;)

Jenbel posted back then she supported Randy's decision to not count OMNI posts and said it was a "good idea". She publicly posted yesterday she has just voted on TB to keep them. :D

Me ..... exactly the same opinion as 3 years ago. Randy had the right idea.

Why can't anyone answer me what changed, and why are we discussing this again

Obviously Randy decided to make them count again, why is there a vote to change his latest decision?
