Munich 7 - 9 August?

If all goes as planned, I'll be in Munich from the afternoon of Saturday the 7th through the afternoon of Monday the 9th of August. (Staying at the Munich Renaissance this time).

Weather should be good (well, the long-range forecast says 30% chance of rain, which -- for Munich -- is good), and if it's not raining I have this book of 99 Biergärten I'm working my way through (long story, but fun). One thing I *have* to do is to ascertain whether the haxen at the Augustiner Biergarten (west of the Hauptbahnhof) is as delectable as the haxen at the Augustiner Großgaststätte on Neuhauserstraße.

Anyone interested in helping with this scientific study? :D

Need to assist the study with the side research of the quality of Apfelschorle....

I'm not sure exactly when I'm arriving in Munich Saturday afternoon, but I will probably be at the Bratwurstherz'l am Victualienmarkt for Nurnbergerwürstchen and Bier vom Holzfaß between 1700 and 1800, and from there relaxing at the nearby biergarten (page 68 in the hymnal).

It's supposed to be warm and partly cloudy in Munich on Sunday, perfect Biergarten weather! We can probably meet at the Augustiner Biergarten at Arnulfstraße 52 Sunday afternoon. For out-of-towners, it's relatively easy to find. If you're downtown, start facing the Hauptbahnhof, then take the street going by the side of the train station on your right - that's Arnulfstraße. Walk along the right sidewalk, through the crossroads (Seidlstr.) and continue up the street until you see trees and stuff on the right side of the street. That's the beer garden. About a ten minute stroll from the Bahnhof, less if you're really thirsty.

I'll plan to be there at 1300 Sunday afternoon, sitting on the "self-service" side, probably reading a book. For those of you who haven't met me or don't remember, I'm tall, a bit "stout," with a short white beard. I'll be wearing a hat - blue baseball cap with "Beer - It's not just for breakfast anymore" on it or a white round floppy hat with brim.

Also, I'll have a cell phone, 0170-560-6975.

Hope to see you there. (This doesn't have to involve a large expenditure of energy. We can just sit in the shade of the chestnut trees and chat, and go get refilled mugs of Edelstoff (or Schorle) as needed and a haxen when the spirit moves us. A great way to while away a Summer Sunday afternoon.)

Well, I'm happy to report the experiment was successfully completed, even though the sample size was questionable. The Haxen was desiccated, but nonetheless tasty. We concluded that it had probably been roasted early in the day, but almost certainly within the last 24 hours.

The weather could hardly have been better. Mostly sunny, with scattered clouds (i.e., the sky was like the Bavarian flag), temperature in the 80s (~30 C for those not used to F), low humidity with a slight breeze. A perfect day for sitting in the shade of a spreading chestnut tree and doing one's part to dispose of the troubling beer surplus in München.

Thanks to Daydream and rcs85551 for dropping by. Although the place was only sparsely populated in mid-afternoon, by 1930 nearly every table was in use, and I would say the Biergarten was about 75% full. It was a wonderful afternoon, the kind that makes you say, "Life is good".

We must do it again.

[scrambles through the fridge to look for that last Augustiner Edelstoff from the last trip....]
