Sorry I have work commitments at 3 airfields in WA that may conflict with me escorting 2 ppl to the QC gig.
If I get a window in between fields I will try and pop back to SYD and get a few things done.
I will keep you informed.

Would that $148 rate (and the incidental costs for the associated stay) be eligible for SPG points?

Pretty much all US Airlines have been giving away Gold SPG recently. If you check SPG Forum for links etc in recent months you may be able to get a card before May 27!
I had Hilton send me a Gold card, arriving within 2 weeks of asking for it recently, so they can work fast at times.
ANY rate booked via Starwood website gets miles AFAIK.

I'll be joining you guys/gals on the 28th of May for the whole Saturday program. After having booked an intenary that gets me through SYD on the 28th by chance, I thought you might appreciate some African input (albeit from a long time lurker who only started posting a shortwhile ago).

My routing from Hawaii to Sydney is like the path of a bird knocked silly -- Argentina, Greece, Phillipines...
If this monkeys-with-darts travel plan is executed successfully, I will arrive Saturday morning the 28th. That's just in time for the 2nd annual flyertalk vegemite eating contest, still a mandatory prerequisite for the Tarmac tour.
While in Sydney, I'll likely be staying at the King's Cross drunk pen.
Ozstamps you are a bloody masochist for doing this again, good on ya mate ^

Seeing there are only a dozen or so folks flying in from USA, why not simply contact those folks from USA/Canada above via PM or email and one of you compile and circulate a grid of flights, and then arrange to rendezvous in a gateway RCC for drinks etc.

I had another look today and you can now get the following for AUD148 per night (fully prepaid and non refundable):This is far more like it I don't really need a water view as I have seen enough of Darling Harbour to last a couple of lifetimes! (Then again, there's not a great deal in that "cityside" part of Sussex St to rave about either.)

The SPG website quotes rates in local currency rather than USD.

Unfortunately, I mistakenly entered the flight number simply as "863" rather than "UA863." And I see no way to edit it.
