Mini ChicagoDO June 6th

After the help and nice posts in the Chicago dining thread, I thought it may be nice to have a dinnerdo(?) in Chicago. Anyone interested. I don't know where, so open to any help with details. Someone suggested Twin Anchors.

Twin Anchors Away!!

The choice of Twin A's is a fine one in my book, and a Sunday is generally a much better choice there than Saturday if one expects a more than a few guests.

Not certain at this point whether or not the date works, but I'd love to join you and the Mrs if it does......will try to PM you just to keep you updated.

What time were you thinking??? Best guess would be that late, late afternoon might draw more folks, but summer Sundays can be funny...

Best wishes, Dave

Your timing is great! I'm on the other coast on Fri-Sat, but my plane gets back to LAX around 4:00 so 5 or 6 for dinner would be good for me. Haven't been to the Twin Anchors yet, but ALWAYS up for a new Cgo dining experience! (Glad to see bseller is tentatively good for that date too!)

Put me down in the very strong possibility category, but I will try to bring some south side bullet proof glass ribs for comparison. :D

I've lived in Chicago for 5 years, and have no idea what Twin Anchors is. Can somebody fill me in?

Twin Anchors is a "local" tavern/restaurant with perhaps a half dozen or so booths in the bar area, and a restaurant room behind that with another 20 or so tables. Its been there since approximately the time of Moses (perhaps earlier!), and has a reasonably "limited" menu. It has: Ribs (tho pre-boiled ... they are still very very good), Burgers, Chicken sandwiches, Pulled Pork sandwiches, Grilled Cheese, etc......The food platters are served with fries or baked, and accompianed by slaw. Beer is generally the beverage of choice (at least for FT'ers!), and the atmosphere is one of family/locals.

To remind everyone of how small the place actually is, there has always (at least for the last 25 years) been a sign over the entrance to the restaurant portion which says: "Positively No Dancing". Located in Old Town, it truly fits the neighborhood....

Hope you can join on the 6th June, but if not, I'd still be willing to bet a beer that you'd enjoy it on your own.....

Best wishes, Dave

Twin Anchors it is

Hope all can attend and post a definite, maybe, possible RSVP. I know it is over a month away, but I will be at Twin Anchors at 6:00 on June 6 (Sunday), and hope as many FTers can join in. To those in the area, will any advance reservations be needed, or will we just have to wait and drink beer. :) because "Positively No Dancing"

I don't recall if Twin A's takes resv's,,,,,,but I "think" that with enough folks (perhaps 6+) one may be able to get one...probably worth the call when we know how many of us will be able to make it....

If not, then simply enjoy the beer!! :D
Best wishes, Dave

Mom switched her b-day dinner from the 5th to the 6th so I won't be able to make it. Have fun.

Assuming my flight makes it back into ORD on time, I'm still planning on being there! Looking forward to meeting you and hopefully a few others of our "locals" will make it too!

tinnub - Having myself met the lovely and charming "cawhite",,,,Its my hope that she is able to meet you for the DO on the 6th,,,,,OTOH: That day we have "unexpected" out of town guests, so I"m out, despite not having TwinA's ribs in a long, long time!! :(

Wishing you a fun time in Chicago, and you have PM....

Dave, you are entirely too kind -- thanks so much for the compliment!!! Sorry we'll miss you on Sunday but hopefully you're still in for lunch on Monday!

Great new FTers!!!

I had a great time meeting tinnub and Mrs tinnub this evening for dinner at the Twin A's!!! Great company and great location -- thanks for the suggestion Dave! Really enjoyed talking about hotels, airlines, FT, etc -- and thanks for the scoop on Hyatt! And I'm really impressed with how Mrs. tinnub managed to score those extra miles for flying through Lyon ;)

These folks are really brave souls...they're having their first two FT get-togethers two days in a row! Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow at lunch!

I think we could swing another trip to Twin A's sometime this summer... ;)

cawhite Jun 8, 2004 8:28 am

I got to have leftover ribs last night for dinner....mmmmmmmm.....!!! (Duke even got a few pieces cut off the rib, I think his eyes even glazed over) If anyone is up for a repeat sometime this summer, let me know!
