For anyone that hasn't used Discord, it's similar to Slack, but a more casual environment and more common among gamers. It's been growing significantly.

My students use discord among themselves but nothing official

Fascinating! Discord was originally created for video gaming communities to have a place to chat. Good use by the school to use something students might know quite well.

Is the discord still up?

Yes, it's because students -- seems more so boys than girls but the gender gap isn't as extreme as it used to be with electronic games -- already were using it a lot and tended to encourage and assist their friends with using it so they can use it together for game play and then other stuff too.

There is still a FT IRC channel over at https://mibbit.com/?channel=%23flyer...irc.mibbit.net though it admittedly does not see a lot of traffic.
