Moving to DEN
 

I have been an active member of the Alaska contingent from the very beginning. In August I will be moving to Denver (actually Centennial). I looked for any sign of a Denver group. Are you out there?

Well, if ya can't find any FTers in CO, I'm confident that you can import some willing visitors from NY!

He needs a caravan to transport his collection of Pacific Northwest wines. Many of us are planning to visit Denver if only to help him thin out the collection.

We in the east have been convinced that Denver is nothing more than a jumping off point for skiers but there certainly must be more to it than that.

I already crossed the border once (illegally I am sure). Took the scenic route from WA, ID, UT & through WY to get there. My ancestors got to Utah as part of the hand cart brigade almost two centuries ago, so moving through enemy territory is nothing new for us:p

Having only spent about 10 days there, I found that there is lots to do and explore. Unfortunately, like most of the U.S., they are closed or have limited hours due to the current situation. Also, I did notice a great increase in water consumption (90 degrees plus during the day) and the need to slow my pace due to the lack of oxygen. I was told it takes about 6 months to get used to that.

And a fortress hub for Uncontinent, the airline(?( (some may call it something else) whose name will never pass my lips is a major drawback for me. Fortunately AA & AS make that somewhat easier to deal with.

Was in Denver one July & it was 100 F at night ! If you like it hot , then fine .. ended up staying indoors the whole conference / trip :( . Would have been nice to ‘ explore ‘ outside .
Other seasons are fine , except flights are “ iffy “ in winter .
Assume temperatures will be searing , soaringly in August .. not my cup of tea .
Iced latte in Down Under preferably New Zealand then is more suitable :)

Like CO though , great outdoors but rather the PNW .. but that is where we FTers can wing it :) ;)

But The WALL. ;) Maybe I'll get a chance to see it one of these days.

The WALL became a major problem for my move. Every moving company I contacted said they would not ship my wines until the lower 48 cooled off. With temperatures at 100 degrees and higher for the next 2-3 months, they would not ensure that the wine would arrive in good condition. Also, the home inspection report revealed more problems with the structure than I wanted to deal with, so I backed out of the purchase. At this point, I will probably spend one more winter in AK and plan to move in late winter or early spring 2021.

Is there a picture of The WALL that you'd be willing to share?

The WALL(s) are actually three different sections and I cannot get a clear shot of all of them at once. They consist of 14 each Vintage View 36 bottle wine racks, shown here at https://vintageview.com/products/wal...12-36-bottles/ and 2 each 36 bottle wine fridges. Only one fridge still works. Everything is cataloged on a website called Cellar Tracker. www.cellartracker.com

Vintage View is based in Denver, another point in favor of the city. The racks are simple, yet elegant without taking up lots of space. I like them because the bottles lay down with the labels facing out so it is easy to see what is in each row.

When this thread first popped up, my thoughts immediately went to your WALL. Good luck with the move, whenever it happens!
