2020 Ann Arbor Art Fair Cancelled

To the list of events cancelled this year due to the virus, you can now add this year's Ann Arbor Art Fair.

I'm surprised it took them this long to take action.

Why is it surprising? Fair is/was scheduled for mid-July.

Does anyone realistically think that any massive gatherings are going to happen anywhere in the world in 2020?

With good distancing and some thinking about pedestrian flow, it would be feasible - we have farmers' markets operating with effective separation between patrons and sellers and from each other.

Have you ever been to Art Fair?

Do your farmers' markets have 400,000 people?

No, I haven't. I've been to the collection of art festivals and events in Laguna Beach that, collectively, have hundreds of thousands attend every year. They just cancelled as of May 11th.

Depending on the size and locale, some farmers' markets have a few thousand per hour who go through over the span of several hours.

If the Ann Arbor Art Fair was serious about making it work in the time of COVID-19, then either they'd have to seriously constrain and manage pedestrian traffic flow, etc. Obviously they didn't want to go through with the challenges as well as potential liability issues.

I think the point of the thread was that often there was an FT Do that coincided w/ the AAAF that's taken place for several years. The FT group rented a library's (?) community room to discuss miles/points, had dinner & brunch & some attendees also attended the AAAF. I could be wrong, but that's my take on it. Otherwise, AAAF being canceled would probably go in the new C-19 forum vs. CommunityBuzz.

Ann Arbor Art Fair DO 15 (DTW) July 20-21, 2019

Cheers.

Agreed. I had hoped to visit friends in Michigan this year and making it coincide with AAAF and a notional FT Do would have been cool.

It's a great event, but a zoo even in normal years. This could have been potentially disastrous from a public health perspective. I'd be in for next year, though!
