CHICAGO - Southside Lakeshore picnic - Calumet Fisheries - Tues July 30

Hey all, it has been awhile since we've been to the southside of Chicago, awhile ago a number of us FTers picked up some delicious items (such as smoked shrimp & salmon, fried oysters & perch, etc) from Calumet Fisheries

We then drove to the very nearby Calumet Park and had our meal on the beach there.

Hoping to repeat this at end of July or first part of August.

As an alternate if the weather is not cooperative on the day of scheduled event, we'll default to a southside soulfood restaurant.

Date: Tuesday July 30
Time: 6:30pm
Venue:
Calumet Fisheries

Maybe depending on date.

Plainsman Jun 28, 2019 9:30 am

Sounds great. Count me in.

I should be in town July and Aug and should be able to join.

CMK10 Jun 28, 2019 5:24 pm

The weekend of July 22nd would work well with me. Nothing else works in August unfortunately.

Calumet Fisheries is a venue which is not easy to reach on public transit.
It is a half-mile walk from the nearest CTA bus stop {incredible}. But I have always wanted to go there, so I am definitely interested.

ckpeter Jun 29, 2019 9:08 am

It's been quite a few years since we last went there!

Put me down as interested.

It’s one of those spots out-of-towners have almost never heard of. Our little secret.

Smokeshack called “A cross between an outhouse and a small-town animal shelter incinerator.”

Haven't made a DO in a while, need to make amends for that, so I'm interested, but it depends on the date SW picks....

Also will note that Metra Electric District runs to 93rd St from Millennium Station, so there is public transportation of a
sort that gets you close.

Sounds great & very much hope to attend!

Last DO there was back in 2013, six years ago: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/comm...sept-24-a.html

Interested, depending on the date.

So it has been a LONG time since we last held a Do there !

Grew up on the southside, so went there literally hundreds of times. Especially during Lent. There used to be a great place across the street called the kingfish in the old days.

When I go now, I usually just sit on the hood of the car and ea it there, But then again I am usually carrying concealed.

Depending on the day, I would be interested. We have to go before they go by the wayside.
