American Airlines MD80 Final Flight?

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a Do where we'd fly the final revenue flight of the American Airlines MD80. They are being retired later this year, and I think I've found the last scheduled MD80 flight (of course, it's subject to schedule changes).

Before I reveal what I (think) the final flight will be, is anyone interested? Should this thread be better off in the American Airlines forum?

American plans to retire their MD80s in September, which is about 5 months away. Also, speaking with a friend who flies for American, he doesn't know if American has any sort of farewell flight planned, but also said that he would be surprised if they didn't do one since the MD80 has been the workhorse that has been the backbone of their fleet for a long time. Has American (or US Airways for that matter since it's that group in charge) ever done a special farewell flight in the past when they retired an aircraft type?

I believe the last currently scheduled Super-80 flight is AA2628 DFW-OMA on 9/3. I highly expect that to change in the coming months, but that's the last one currently on the schedule.

I'll be doing my best to fly it though as mentioned up thread the details are very much up in the air right now which makes planning annoying.

You might get more response in the American Airlines | AAdvantage forum with a link to that thread here.

6. Cross-Posting

Don't post your topic more than once. Duplicate threads or posts will be deleted, combined or locked. You may cross reference a post in another forum. For example, if you are questioning whether American Airlines or United Airlines may be the best fit for you, post the primary question in perhaps the American forum and then post a link to that thread in the United forum. An exception to this rule includes posts related to charitable activities, please see Rule 11 — Charitable Posts

Gotta wonder of the 737Max issue delays parking the MD-80s?

probably not as much as one might think ... story in Business Insider today seems to indicate that AA deployed the MAX at their MIA hub to maximize commonality with the 738 fleet that’s also exceedingly common there

Even if there's a delay in their retirement, it won't be delayed beyond the end of the year, because American's MD80s don't comply with the FAA's ADS-B Out mandate (and neither do their E190s) which is why they must be retired before then.

That would be easy enough to remedy if necessary.

the MadDog phaseout (200+ jets) has been happening for awhile; I think fuel burn and diminishing availability of spares have been principal factors ... that said, though, I’m a bit surprised to see that the E90s are going also
