I will be on the other side of the globe that week and unable to welcome you properly to Tokyo, but may I suggest that you walk over to ARK Hills (ask the concierge, very well known) and stroll along the Sakurazaka (Cherry Blossom Street) during the day or evening. I work near here. It is is not fall foliage but an awfully nice seasonal equivalent. Enjoy our trip.

Thanks Mike, that sounds like a great idea!

Would you mind recommending places to eat also?

Thanks again!

For a second I thought we might be on the same flights, but I'm arriving on the 27th and leaving on the 29th. Staying at the NRT Hilton. I'd love to get together if possible. Email me!

Be sure to wander around the really nice garden behind the New Otani Hotel, which I believe is right across the street from the Akasaka Prince.

The New Otani has a revolving Chinese restaurant at the top that last time I was there served an overpriced (but not terribly so by Tokyo standards) all-you-can-eat dinner. The food was only just OK but it was quite nice to sit at night and watch the city go by. Don't drink too much or you will forget how to find the food, which was on the non-rotating portion of the restaurant.

Going to toss this one out:

How about Shunbou at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo. An amazing place that serves not too expensive Japanese food ina setiing that is not only viusually pleasing but also somewhat unique. The food is varied Japanese cooking and I find it some of the most caerefully prepared food I have had here. Adjacent if you just want Sushi is Roku Roku. Very fine indeed also but I recoimmend Shunbou for the variety.

This is going to mean you will visit the Roppongi Hills complex too so have a walk around there as it is one the highlights of modern Tokyo.(shamelss plug I know but the press says so too. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif )

Happy to answer questions here or via e-mail on any aspect of visiting Tokyo .

Best,

Mike

RichardInSF and mjm, thanks for info.!

unagi1, we are on our way to DFW on AA on the 28th, will look out for the tags! (I have them on my bag also.)

chemist661, looks like we will be meeting vasantn at the Akasaka Prince hotel around 8PM on Sat. 3/27 and going out to eat from there if you're interested (and anyone else too of course!).

Im arriving at NRT on the 27th and leave on the 29th. Havent decided where I am staying yet. The Roppongi Prince had a great all you can eat sushi dinner last year that I went to. Also, for first rate sushi at reasonable prices I would suggest Edo Gin which have a few places near the fish market. Excellent value for sushi. For excellent sushi at higher price I would suggest Kyubei. Ill post more when I figure out what I am doing.

One other thing, a couple Japanese friends of mine told me that since the weather has been pretty warm the cherry blossoms might be out then. Here's hoping.....

GadgetFreak, if you're traveling from NYC we're probably on the same flight! Look for the yellow FT tag. Or email me if you want to get a preflight drink at the AC.

How about meeting up at the Marble Square Lobby Lounge at the Akasaka Prince Hotel on Sat. (3/27) at 8PM. We can start out with drinks and if people are hungry we can choose a place and go from there.

Certainly open to any other suggestions so please feel free to post them!

Thanks!
Dale.
