Arriving BKK 2/13. Is anyone going to be around?

I won't be around, but I just wanted to warn you about the bird flu.

It came from Vietnam into So. Thailand, and has been spreading over the country ever since. They have been killing all the country's cocks and, also, of course, suspending most cockfights, but it hasn't helped because its now being passed person to person!

Oh FFS! "Normal" flu kills 30,000 people every year in the USA. Should we all stop travelling there as well?

i just cannot believe it, only 9 month after people went bonkers over the SARS hoax, some now blow this chicken**** out of proportion!
SARS is said to have killed 1000 people over 10 weeks in a territory of around two billion ( i reckon more people got killed falling off their bedsides), while in 2002 flue killed 15000 in germany (80 million ) alone !

Maybe I should not have put the exclamation point after my last sentence. I actually meant this latest warning as kind of Tongue in Cheek.

I love Thailand and some stupid Bird Flu (I guess they had to name it something) certainly wouldn't stop me from going there. I can't imagine anyone being silly enough to change plans over such a, comparitively, trivial virus.

I'm flying to BKK tonight (5-Feb) will be there a few days, going to Phuket and then back to BKK for one night 13-Feb. Send me an e-mail if you'd like to meet up for a drink.

I'm leaving BKK tomorrow and will be back 10-20 Feb. Email me if anyone wants to meet up.

Funny how the flu seems to be following me around...I was in SIN during SARS and now I'm living here during the bird flu. As far as I'm concerned, in both cases I just follow good hygiene, keep my distance from people who appear ill, and in this case, I just avoid eating eggs and chicken.

Apart from that, life goes on as normal....No point living in fear, is there? Unless you plan on riding on a Bangkok motorcycle taxi...then you'd better say your prayers http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Its just that people not living here happen to see just the bad stuff on CNN or BBC. Case in point: my mom, who gets so worried watching tv and calls me every few days to check if I'm in a hospital somewhere...

Looks like it. I am coming un from SFO on 837. I forgot what time, but after a shower will probably head over to the SQ lounge, or if the food was bad, MacDonalds outside immagration.

I'm trying to buy a ticket right now... at this point I may be there on Valentines weekend or the following one 19-23

On the poultry front, I was in BKK last week and feel fine after eating chicken a few times.
(I think UA still doesn't know of the scare as every choice on the breakfast menu had either chicken or eggs :-?)

I will be in KUL on 2/15 then HKT on the 16th and 17th, then BKK 18, 19, 20, then SIN on the 21,22. Does anyone want to get together. This is a MR, so I'm pretty free.

I will be arriving BKK on 2/13 on CX 709 from HKG.

I will be in BKK 2/13 - 2/16 ... staying at the Holiday Inn Silom by the river.

In BKK...will be around on the 13th (and the 23rd as well). Drop an e-mail if something is going on.
