SS255 Jan 14, 2004 3:02 pm

I've got some pockets on free time on the 17th & 18th, so I'd be up for something.

dhammer53 Jan 14, 2004 4:41 pm

ANyone up for breakfast Saturday (17th) at 8:00am? <or> Monday (19th)at 9:00am?

I'm headed to Santa Monica to a place I read about in Flyertalker Dining. I'll edit to post the name later?

Dan

SS255 Jan 14, 2004 7:48 pm

8AM's a little early for a Saturday, but I'd meet you for breakfast in Santa Monica at 9AM on Monday.

dhammer53 Jan 14, 2004 9:53 pm

I was reading in FT Dining (LA), that Cora's, located on Ocean at Pico is better than Blueberry Cafe on Santa Monica.

You decide about Monday?
I'll do the other place on Saturday.

I love checking out breakfast places in the LA area. My favorite is still Joanies. it's on Washington, right behind the marriott in Marina D.R.

My e mail is [email protected]
Send me your cell #.

idealflyer,

What time on the 16th? I get in earlier in the day and might be up for a drink, depending on host's plans for me. I also have the 17th pretty much entirely free until evening.

dhammer53,

Checking on the 17th morning with my host as well--I'll drop you an email.

Nanook Jan 15, 2004 8:38 am

Dan, would love to have breakfast with you. Meet at 8:00 a.m. at Cora's.

Idealflyer, where are you staying? I live near LAX so I could pick you up and drop you back, if you wish.

Anybody else need a ride?

SS255 Jan 15, 2004 10:02 am

Dan,

YGM.

It sounds like you've got Cora's covered on Saturday, so I'll meet you at 9AM on Monday at Blueberry. Not sure where you're staying, but I'll be coming from West LA, & driving right through Beverly Hills and the UCLA area, so let me know if you need a lift.

Sorry, wrong night for this week's trip!

idealflyer Jan 15, 2004 1:55 pm

Getting in probably too late on 16th, 1049pm. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Will be staying most likely at LAX Hilton so breakfast is in the lounge but brunch sounds better. Here is the schedule for that weekend....

Arrive Friday night 1049pm, depart Saturday 920p
Sunday LAX layover 1053a-415p
Monday LAX layover 1109a-1035p so basically all day

dhammer53 Jan 15, 2004 4:59 pm

Nanook,

Look forward to seeing you again.

See you at Cora's.

Dan

Orix

SS255 Jan 15, 2004 6:58 pm

Idealflyer, I could meet you (or anybody else) on Saturday the 17th for dinner or a drink before you fly out, if you want. I'm busy most of the day on Saturday, so it has to be after 5PM.

I own the two seats courtside directly next to the Clippers players (ie basically on the bench with the team) as well as another set of lower level tickets.

Go Clippers!

If I can sneak away from the house this afternoon, I'll try to wander by the LAX Hilton this evening @ 5 p.m. to meet you folks. I don't know about my availability for dinner, but since I live so close to LAX (around the corner from Nanook), it would be great to meet a couple more fellow Flyertalkers.

Onedog

SS255 Jan 17, 2004 4:27 pm

Onedog,

Still waiting for Idealflyer to select a restaurant. Since I won't have access to my computer between now and 5PM, I'll temporarily post my cell phone # if you decide to meet up with us at the Hilton.

Edited to delete cell phone number

Nanook Jan 17, 2004 7:20 pm

I just couldn't get away this evening or I would have come by the Hilton. Hope you all met up and had a great dinner. Onedog, I seem to keep missing you.

My breakfast with dhammer: well, Cora's wasn't as good as we'd heard. Not horrible, but nothing to go out of one's way for. We'll have to try Jinky's sometime. But the company was good...that's the main thing.

SS255 Jan 17, 2004 10:21 pm

Onedog, not sure if you showed up at the Hilton lobby. We were on the couches for 15-20 minutes before heading up to the 16th floor club room, and then to Natalee Thai in Culver City.

Nanook, if you were disappointed by Cora's, you should come to Blueberry on Monday at 9!

idealflyer Jan 18, 2004 4:26 am

Just a quick correction, 16th floor executive lounge, not club room. Let's not get any rumors started as SS255 is a nice person. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Glad I got to meet some like minded frequent flyers, especially on AA and US. Great choice of food and restaurant and glad I got to meet the newest AA million miler, delacpa!

I am in Boston now where my EXP is not enough to use the First lounge as my ticket is not international, only the main part. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Edited to add times in LAX again:
Sunday- 1100am-415pm
Monday- 1100am-1100pm

SS225, will definitely try to get to Blueberry on Monday at 9 am (is that the one at 510 Santa Monica Blvd?). I have to go to the food bank to drop off some Kelloggs boxes and that's not too far away.

SS255 Jan 18, 2004 10:52 am

Correct. Cross street is 5th Street. Phone # is (310) 394-7766.

Thanks for correcting my faux pas! And thanks for the lovely compliment, as well. For those of you who were unable to join us, you missed out on a great dinner with the grand pooh-bah of mileage runs. And the added bonus of being the first FT'ers to personally help Delacpa celebrate achieving AA million miler status was worth the 30 minute wait to get our table!

techgirl Jan 18, 2004 11:28 am

Mmmmmm.... Blueberry. I love that place.

To steal the famous quote from Rudi... "I'm soooooooooo jealous".

(Their nonblueberry breakfasts, btw, are as good as if not better than their blueberry stuff. Its ALL good. Try the blueberry lemonade!)

delacpa Jan 18, 2004 11:37 am

Yes, indeed, a lovely dinner with LOTS of helpful hints & incredible information!! It was great getting together with a "known" FT'r as well as meeting a "new" one.

And again, my thanks to you for helping me celebrate my "AAchievement" http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cool.gif

SS255 Jan 19, 2004 5:14 pm

Now I can add Dhammer & Nanook to the expanding list of fascinating FT'ers I've had the pleasure of meeting in person.

It was a great breakfast all around, despite the fact that the coffee was a bit weak & they ran out of blueberry ice cream!

idealflyer Jan 19, 2004 5:37 pm

Here is the pic from dinner. Flying back tonight but do hope to meet up with everyone again on the next trip through LAX.

Thanks for posting the picture of our dinner.... obviously (since my eyes are closed) I was VERY tired from attaining my Million Miler status http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cool.gif

Best wishes for all your future flights and do hope to meet you again when you're next in town.

SS255 Jan 19, 2004 7:46 pm

And since my eyes aren't closed, I don't have to ask you to delete the post! Have a safe trip back to the East Coast (for the 3rd time in as many days).

Maybe you are just dreaming of where to go with all of those miles. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

dhammer53 Jan 20, 2004 7:07 am

If you'd like this New Yorkers take on Cora's and Blueberry...

All on a zero to 10 scale....

Atmosphere

Cora's 2
Blueberry 3

Don't expect anything fancy.

Since I ate blueberry pancakes at both places (had to be fair in making a comparision); here are the differences:

Cora's - <7> old fashioned pancakes, big, and a nostalgic golden shade of yellow. Blueberries were slightly tart. Maybe they should taste then before putting them on. Sort of like being served yellow tomatoes instead of red ones.

Blueberry - <6> Paper thin pancakes with blueberries on top. These blueberries were a little sweeter than Cora's.

Now here's the funny part... I was reading LA Magazine on the trip out; and who did they recommend? Jinky's.

Cora's and Blueberry is certainly acceptable; but next time I'm Jinky's bound based on the above recommendation from a Flyertalker and LA Magazine.

Have to agree with Nanook, the company was much better than the food. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/thumbsup.gif
