Vienna Dec. 5-12

A great city at any time and especially for the Christmas Markets and concerts. Mrs. Fredd and I have already booked several opera evenings, but have left lots of free time for Grinzing.

Mrs. Fredd spent a college year in Vienna a few decades ago and it remains a favorite spot - anyboy else there around that time?

We leave for Viena on Dec 25 for 10 days. Any hints where to get tickets or any other ideas? Will be at the Hilton.

Fredd, tell MrsFredd that I too spent college year in Vienna a couple of decades ago. Love the city & go back every few years.

rbernheim, Fredd can probably give you the scoop since they'll be there before you. Which Hilton? Has the Vienna opened up again, or is it still under reonvation? (anyway, that's a sidetrack of the thread, so no need to answer).

Have fun all of you! Cheers.

Edited to add: The Albertina Museum opened up again this summer after a multi-million $$ renovation, so I'd say add that to your list of things to do. Heard it's fab.

I think you will really enjoy Vienna. It is a wonderful city! A lot of good information can be found at http://www.info.wien.at/
A few highlights: the wonderful museums just outside the circular Ringstrasse at Burgring (art and history), the Hofburg(winter residence of the Hapsburgs) or Schönnbrun (summer residence),Stefansdom (cathedral) and Stefansplatz in the center of the inner city, coffee and pastry or a Glühwein (spiced wine) in a Kafeehaus and a visit to Grinzing (wine-growing district) (streetcar 19 to the end of the line).
There are some wonderful concerts and operas (w're seeing the Magic Flute, La Boehme, and Merry Widow)that can be booked at:
http://info.wien.at/wtv/eventdatenbank-e.html
Hope you have a wonderful time!
