That is extremely high praise coming from someone who (IIRC) is not all that into Port...

His (well, his family's, RIP), ports are in another class. And by another, I mean more like different than better or worse. I stumbled (figuratively) in his once humble little shed when I saw a sign off of Highway 29, on a little driveway next to Sutter Home, somewhere in the mid 1980s, and was a regular for several years. While I haven't been in years (as I avoid that valley unless there's a specific event), about a year and a half ago I opened a 1995 Royal Escort at Thanksgiving. It was lovely.

Not that you need much more of a nudge, but your proffered selection will provide the opportunity for the crowd to taste something quite distinctive in style, and not in wide circulation, not to mention the new best friends you'll have. While 2006 Taittinger Champagne Brut Blanc de Blancs Comtes de Champagne is worthy of friendship, and a close one at that, it is too widely distributed to be worthy of best friendship (no matter how temporary).

The wine list has been updated. I have to confirm the final count by Wednesday, so if you know anyone else that's interested, now's the time. The cost of dinner was based on 24 attendees. The additional cost will be approximately $3.00 - $3.50.

As of May 30 late evening NYC time, there are 20 attendees.

If there are 20 attendees, the final extra cost is $4.00.

We're very lucky with this WineDo as I do not have to guarantee anything. If someone can't make it, we don't pay for them. Since North square is understanding, I'm able to refund your money.

<Rant> I know that things come up. Life happens. Business meetings happen. I happen to be in ATL the last couple of days. Here's what I would expect to hear from someone that drops out last minute... Hey Dan, I can't make it. If you could send me a refund it would be appreciated; oh, and hey, if you need an extra few dollars to cover the extra tip, that's ok. I don't like ranting on these threads. Anyone that organizes DO's knows it's a labor of love. Aggravation goes with the territory, and organizers know this. The particular WineDo has had multiple comings and goings this year. yeah I know. Stuff happens. <end Rant>.

As the list stands on May 30 late evening, we're 20 for dinner. Please bring an extra $4.00 to cover the tip.

Thank you.

In honor of serfty, who could not be here for the DO, frantic is bringing a bottle of the Penfolds St. Henri Shiraz 2012 which was one of the house gifts he brought along last winter when he came up for a football game. Our Aussie friend will be proud to have this group taste it and it promises to a fine comparison between it and the Red Willow, one of our long-time favorites, that BOB W is bringing. In the unusual absence of any Rieslings in my stash, I will bring another of those Columbia Valley Bordeaux style red blends that we have been talking about, a Bookwalter Conflict 2015.

If you haven't purchased your wine yet, we can use more Champagne, Riesling, and or an after dinner wine.

Because everyone should sample interesting wine, even one never heard of, I am also bringing a bottle of Blue Ox Wine Company 2018 "Persona" Cabernet Pfeffer. (It is a Riesling or a Red )

https://blueoxwineco.orderport.net/p...bernet-Pfeffer

What is Cabernet Pfeffer? It might be Gros Verdot. And it might not be. It comes from Berkeley's newest winery (but fear not, another is opening this summer). Blue Ox is also the only one around making méthode champenoise bubbles, and they happen to be quite decent at an excellent price point. No, not on commission there, just trying to expose the tasty product of a couple of nice, hardworking guys (who met while working at Broc Cellars, down the street), to the wine drinking public. Enjoy (or don't)! 2 barrels made. Already sold out.

Where do they grow this Cabernet Pfeffer?

OOPs. Found it in the link above. Those winemakers think it makes delicious wine so thank you for bringing it for us who would never otherwise see it.
