Lunch in SFO August 11th

I am going to be in Napa this weekend and staying an extra day to see an art exhibit on Monday. Is anybody going to be around that would like to join willie-wonka and I for lunch in the city? If so, please post here. I realize a lot of people work, but just thought it would be fun to meet some other FTers if you're around/able to make it into the city.

I understand from SOME Bay Area FTers (not naming any names here . .. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif) that parking can be troublesome for some. Plans would be we will meet at 12:30 PM on Monday for lunch. Please post if you're interested in joining. Details e.g., place to follow.

ldsant, if the certain art exhibit you plan to see is at SFMOMA, it's only 6 blocks from my office and I'd be delighted to RSVP for lunch. While parking is problematic, we do have a complete public transit network that might help attendance.

Check your yahoo email, Liz. And for others (I was also assuming the MOMA), the 5th/Mission Garage is an easy in/out from the Bay Bridge or 101/280N at that time of day - about $4 for lunchtime.

I agree that 5th/Mission garage is good for SFMOMA, if that is where the exhibit is.

I'm interested in joining the lunch on Monday.

Let us know the details!

I'm heading out of town Monday afternoon, but it's possible I could still make lunch. Please email me or post the details and I'll let you know for certain.

DOH! I will be down on the Peninsula all week. Won't be able to get all the way to the city for lunch. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

will details be posted? I will be getting ready for my show that night but depending on where lunch is I might be able to make it!

Since Liz is computerless for the moment, I seem to have become the default organizer. I'm meeting here at SFMOMA for the 10:00 A.M. opening. No guarantee on entry time, since I'm having an impossible time buying tickets online. In theory, we are then walking west to TU LAN(6th St., west side, just south of Market)for one of those only in SF experiences(great food, awful ambiance---lots of local color and street people). I've been there before and I hope it hasn't changed. Hope to see some of you there.

So, meet at Tu Lan at 12:30 PM, right?

I'm game!

I've never eaten there, but I just read
the reviews of Tu Lan on epinions.com

I'm going to have to pass because I don't think I'd make it back in time.

Have fun.

Ditto, here. Sorry, ldsant et. al., hope to catch you next time.

Tu Lan is a great place - I will try and make it over (it will be tight). I have eaten there dozens of times. The chicken or lemon beef salad, and imperial rolls are as good as you can find. Some sauced dishes are "misses."

just a word to the wise - Tu Lan food is not as good as it was and I have not been back since the last time when there wre serious cleanliness issues. The epinions reviews are all from a few years ago. Recent FT'ers who have eaten there have rated it only so so .

If anyone went, I'd appreciate a critique. I haven't been there in several years; I remember it being quite good. Thanks!!

Eastbay1K Aug 11, 2003 3:27 pm

Lunch was good - I didn't share in the "feast" (just ordered a single plate dish) as I was short on time, as it happened there would have been plenty of time to share in the gluttonfest that seemed to cost $27 for the other 3 (and there were 3 large to-go boxes of leftovers). I had imperial roll and grilled pork over rice noodles. The company wasn't bad, either http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif And there was NO TRAFFIC going over - I made it to the 5th/Mission garage in under 25 minutes.

I enjoyed the lunch too!

And the employees who always seem to stumble and crash as they exit the double kitchen doors add a certain "je ne sais quoi."

The place is what it is and where it is. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Always fun to get together with FTers!

Thanks for the SFMOMA tix, Judith. Remind me at Masa's that I owe you for them.

Guess I'm the last to sign in. The Chagall exhibition was much better than I expected. Tu Lan was much the way I remembered it. The company for lunch was much more interesting than the last time I was there. I think it becomes less exciting after multiple visits, since the surprise of where it is wears off.
The food wasn't spectacular, but it was quite good and certainly quite plentiful.

Thanks for a wonderful end to my great weekend! Meeting Ebay 1K and Kathy was great - seeing willie-wonka again (and getting to visit her VERY cool store) was fun as well per usual.

Such a nice treat. Thanks again for coming out to meet me. I too went to the Chagall exhibit. . hmm. . .interesting I didn't happen to run into one of you http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Also, as a side note, thanks to tom911 for making the time to come to Napa to see me (even on broken toe and all - those darn household appliances - hard to know when they'll attack you! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Again, thanks all. FYI. . the food was good and I loved the atmosphere. . like eating in somebody's kitchen!
