CNX July 20-22
I'll be in Chiang Mai, Thailand July 20-22. Would like to catch up with any other FTers in town.
------------------ Latitudes. For my part, I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel’s sake. The great affair is to move; to feel the needs and hitches of our life more nearly; to come down off this feather-bed of civilisation, and find the globe granite underfoot and strewn with cutting flints. I'm overnighting in BKK on the 11th night if anyone is interested in meeting up. Staying out by the airport at the Comfort Suites - I don't have the energy to schlep my way back-and-forth to town, but I can always do that for a FT meeting! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Dan, be sure to check out The Antique House Restaurant I or II while in CNX. The atmosphere is quite nice in an old, huge historic house with unique local, live music at No. I. I can vouch for the excellent food there. However, I've heard that II is even better than I. I just kept returning to I! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif Check either out if you've time. The Antique house is no more than a 15 minute walk from The Night Bazar and/or The Chiang Mai Plaza Hotel - which is the ideal and prolly the best place to stay in CNX IMHO - although I did not stay there. The CMP has a very nice bkfst4free. If you only want to spend 750 Baht per nite there is Peoples Place, a little local hotel 1/2 block from the CMP. Very basic but clean and OK with A/C, but without bkfst for that rate. But you can walk to the CMP for bkfst. The airport in BKK is the best place to book the CMPH, comes to about 1/2 of walk up rates. Excellent food at the AH and so very, very cheap. I think I spent about $6 on most visits, perhaps about $12 when I went 'all out.'
BTW, I do not like the Westin Chiang Mai as it has a very old looking, dreary, dark lobby, and it's off the beaten path from the Night Bazar. It is located next to a filthy, smelly River. You'll have a great time. I love CNX! I could live there, easily! [This message has been edited by tvl4free (edited 07-06-2003).] |
