DUB July 7 2003

Hi all,

I'm overnighting in Dublin on my way to Spain on July 7.

Interested to meet any other FTers. Thanks.

Hi Latitudes,

Not sure of my schedule yet, but could be in DUB - if so, would be delighted to meet up. Where are you staying ?
Regards,

John P.

Hi JAP,

I'm catching the train from Galway on Monday morning, arriving Heuston around 14:00 (I think). I'm booked in overnight at the Great Southern due to an early departure the next morning.

If you are in town it would be great to catch up with you. You can always e-mail me directly on the address in my profile. I'll make sure I check in again over the weekend.

I have a flight out of DUB early AM on Tue, Jul 8, so I was planning on spending the day before, Jul 7, around DUB, probably a county over, I think its Meath, checking out some gardens and mounds I missed before, then the night at this little B&B there because, if things are the same, the prices for overnite accommodation, even B&Bs, in Dublin, are, for less than comparable lodging, extremely high.

But I may be willing to head more over to Dublin at some point to meet up. What is your schedule?

[edited due to my posting just as you were posting]

Thanks for the schedule - will email you.

Sounds like a plan lisamcgu! I know what you mean about accommodation prices, they are through the roof!

I'll wait for your e-mail.

So the prices are still high?

Last time I checked was in Aug, 2000.

My B&B is actually 40 minutes away from the airport so I was going to look into something just a bit closer but, hopefully, still far away enough to get a reasonable rate, like before I got the owner to commit a room to me, a single, which the popular ones hate to do, even with the supplement.

How much is the place you are staying, Great Southern? I've never heard of it or the town you referred to, Heuston.

Great Southern Hotel is a relatively new one at Dublin Airport. Probably preferable to any of the others there ...

Heuston is the name of the Central Train Station in Dublin ...

Lat - I've just been talking extensively to JAP.

He has been giving me lessons on where I want to be to get to the airport in time for my 7:00 am flight Jul 8.

It was decided I should stay not in Dublin city center, but in Malahide, like 15 minutes from the airport. Many B&Bs for alot less than any of the airport hotels plus this would enable a great place to have drinks.

He said he would post but since he hasn't yet, here is where I think he said would be a good place to meet:

I thought the place he said had a longer name, but maybe it was just his accent http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/tongue.gif

Post and let us know what you think. This place would be alot closer to you than "downtown" Dublin, and I may even be up for picking you up from your hotel as I should be back down there by early afternoon.
