Cow Do XV (EZE) - Aug 30 to Sep 02, 2019

Its time, again, to thank everybody for their patience... and bring life to the Official Master Thread for the 15th consecutive Cow Do in Buenos Aires (EZE).

As customary, this DO happens over the US Labor Day Weekend - please come back to this thread to learn about this event, including program updates and news. This DO is a gathering of FTers (and non-FTers also welcome) that come together to enjoy Beef & Malbec, and all the other nice & interesting things that Buenos Aires has to offer. From Tango to Polo, Leather, Soccer and one of the Wonders of the World, Buenos Aires is just the welcome gateway to a variety of programs & possibilities....

This DO is one of the longest running yearly events of all FlyerTalk, I think that its tradition is only second to the Australia Do... Im sure that I can be corrected in case Im mistaken, but regardless, this DO is for sure one of the top DO's of these boards in terms of "years of service", and Im very happy & proud to be able to remain a part of this event that brings folks to my hometown, Buenos Aires.

After a great experience last year, we are again naming the 1828 Smart Hotel as the "official" (or suggested) Hotel for this Do. Needless to say, folks are encouraged to stay anywhere they want, and we do of course understand folks have their hotel points to collect, but for those that want a small luxury non-chain hotel at a great value, I would suggest you consider looking into this property.

They are offering a FlyerTalk Special Corporate Rate, please contact the hotel directly and mention the "FlyerTalk Corporate Rate", and they will provide details. All Bookings are to be made directly with the Hotel and handled by each interested guest.

See the hotel website here: http://1828smarthotel.com/en/

Please post your interest in this do and keep us updated as you book your tickets, hotel & other activities !!!!

Cheers from EZE,
Alex / Gaucho100K

I'll keep my eye out. The little routing loophole that allowed me to attend for a day was closed up

nomadic.relief Dec 26, 18 9:51 pm

This has been on my radar for a few years now, jury's still out, but it's more likely than previous years.

penegal Jan 3, 19 2:47 pm

Thanks for confirming the dates.

Please list my early interest. I've had a number of close friends spend the Christmas / New Year period in BA and Mendoza and I have been watching their updates with much jealousy. Here's hoping I can make things work for this do.

There's a thread (started today) about a JFK-EZE business class "sale" fare in the Premium Fare Deals subforum of the MR forum.

Dear Gaucho 100K,

I have booked round trip air arriving 29 August and departing 2 September. Waiting to book hotel informed by your plans for the Do. I could book the 1842 like last year, but will wait until you advise us of the details.

Cheers,

-Cyborg

Excellent News Cyborg. I will put you on the Confirmed List.

On the issue of the Hotel, it is my intention to make the 1828 Smart Hotel the "suggested" lodging option, but Im waiting for them to come back with the details of what perks they are able to throw in to Do participants. I should have more details in the next couple of days.

Please check back here regularly, we look forward to welcoming you once again.

Cheers,

Weíve switched to a new shift system at work, so itíll be another month or two before I know. Previously, weíd bid our days off in a six month block...now itís done in three month increments. As of now, I only have my April-June schedule.

Gaucho100K Apr 20, 19 4:05 pm

Thanks for the update... look forward to hearing from you as soon as you can work things out.

First page of this Master Thread has now been updated, preliminary schedule of events is now listed, some venues are now confirmed - other still in the works.

Also have updated the list of confirmed attendees and those still working on travel plans.

Please keep us posted as you firm up your schedules.... looking forward to seeing lots of FTers over this coming labour day !!!

Different dinner restaurants this year, but the links don't work. What can you tell us about these places?

Somos Asado

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...d492d0b4a.jpeg
I went to Somos Asado today for lunch. Based on what Iíve read from last yearĎs DO and noticing itís on the calendar once again this year, I thought I check it out. Run by a lovely husband and wife team in a small intimate space where the food totally prevails. They have a wonderful lunch special at 250 ARS which translated to approximately $5.55 USD at todayís exchange rate. Service was tended by the lovely wife and the chef came over and chatted with me for a while at the end of my meal. The meat was an oven roasted type of brisket with barbecue sauce that melted in your mouth and the accompanying sweet potatoes were fantastic. Meal started with a handmade in-house empanada which is one of the better renditions that Iíve had in the longest of times. Fantastic place and a must go for their lunch special! All inclusive, starter drink and meal for $5.55

I'm now booked at the host hotel. What options do you suggest for transportation to the hotel from EZE? The hotel offers a private care for AR$800 which is only ~$18.

Thatís pretty good at todayís exchange rate because an Uber is between 650 and 800 depending on the time of the day and a Remis from the airport is much higher than Manuel Tienda Leon bus plus transfer to your hotel itís 485 ARS As of today. Iím at the AMEX Centurion lounge right now is way better these days and the star alliance lounge. Because of the volatility the peso prices may change come September . Bear in mind the city is very slow people are really hungry for US dollars most of the places that I typically go are kind of slow, taxis are roaming the streets looking for fares And itís a very difficult time for the locals things are really depressed. Donít pay a lot of money for things youíll just be taken advantage of A $75 lunch or dinner is way out of the question no matter where you go

It's looking like I'll be able to stay over to Monday this year. I just need to make plane and hotel reservations, but I'm certainly planning to do COW DO (and WINE DO from the right side of the Andes) once again.

Hello! I just noticed this thread and this ďdoĒ has definitely piqued my interest. Iíve only attended one ďdoĒ in YYZ and would love a chance to meet more FTers - what better way to do so than enjoying cow and wine! Plus, Iíve never been to EZE!

i canít quite commit yet as my calendar for July and August for work is still not firm. But Iíll definitely start researching flights etc. Is there a deadline you need commitment by?
