CODE ORANGE

We are now at CODE ORANGE, and there is a huge chance we will be CODE RED within 48 hours, there was indication that we could be CODE RED before 48 hours, Since there are hundreds of memebers from all over the world, I can only wish and hope that everyone is safe and secure within the next week.

I can only wish and hope that everyone is safe and secure within the next week

Unfortunately, I am pretty sure that armies (and civilians) on both sides of the 'front' are not safe and secure within the next week ...

Starting tomorrow I'm on my own personal CODE ORANGE-- I'm on the lookout for xtra cheap fares to far away places w/ plenty of room to upgrade.

I'm so scared! The Department of Homeland Insecurity seems to be doing it's job of scaring people into staying home. They can take their Candyland color coding and shove to a place where color doesn't matter, thank you very much for the warning. If I die because of a terrorist attack, I'll do it without cowering in my duct taped sealed safe room ... hopefully I'll have enough time to lift a beer and say "Cheers" http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I'm tired of this idiocy. Take a look at my thread on CAPPS II. http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...ML/000064.html

Please do your part if you think that this is madness. I'm fed up and I'm trying to do the best I can to show my feelings to those in power. I just wish there were more champions out there to keep our rights.

Tired of the threat of blacklisting and profiling?

Stop the CAPPS II madness.

And the connection between that and this thread is??

Not that any of it belongs in community to begin with.

ernestb Mar 17, 2003 10:24 pm

WOW, the reason why i put this in this forum is because it states "The official get together page for the FlyerTalk community"

Considering that we are going to go to war, considering that without a doubt there are members of flyertalk that are or will be called on duty to support the USA. In fact has anyone started a thread to find out what members of Flyertalk that have actually been activated?

I just wanted to bring some support to our members here espically to the members that are directly involved in this situation.

Best wishes

Nice try.

Sorry about the off topic post. I got into such a fury over the new Patriot act and CAPSS II that I lost the meaning of the thread.

I would like to send out my support to those FTers who are out there in the defense of our country and to those FTers that are directly affected by the need to serve. Whatever outcome may be, I hope it will truly be focused on keeping world peace and stability and that few lives will be lost.

Can someone here please enlighten me on what threat exactly Saddam Hussein poses to the USA? I have never heard it articulated convincingly by anyone who can produce any supporting evidence.

Even if he does have nuclear or biological or chemical weapons (and on nuclear the UN inspectors say not, on chemical/biological they say "not proven") how is that a threat to the USA which is many thousand of miles away from Iraq?

There are a number of countries out there which have more capability to threaten world peace (either directly or indirectly) including North Korea and Israel. There are also a number of countries posing a more clear and immediate threat to their neighbours, particularly in Africa. Moreover there are many countries ruled by a regime which an objective observer would not say is in the best interests of the bulk of that country's population (again, much of Africa, Iran, Libya, North Korea, some of South America, much of ex-Soviet Central Asia).

If the USA feels the need to be the policeman of the world (which is debateable) I can see a number of things that should be higher on the priority list than Iraq.

Just to be clear, I do understand the threat posed to the USA and many other countries by Al-Qaeda, and I have no problem in principle with the invasion of Afghanistan or other actions against Al-Qaeda (although I am beginning to get concerned about the fact that Guantanamo Bay is apparently outside the jurisdiction of any country). But that is an entirely separate question, and I have never seen any evidence linking Iraq to Al-Qaeda any more strongly than many other countries (and being a secular state it is much less strongly linked to them than most Muslim states).

I, for one, suspect that there is adequate justification for this invasion, and that it will all become clear after the fact. There are many reasons, i.e., protecting inside undercover informants/agents, that those reasons cannot be made public at this time.

Here are the reasons I believe this is true:

1. I trust Colin Powell, and saw a marked turnaround in his position in that past few months. I suspect that that was as a result of new information he acquired.

2. GWB very much wants to be re-elected and knows full well that this invasion must eventually be backed up with very strong proof of its necessity if he is to achieve that end. If we go in and no weapons of mass destruction are discovered, "I'm sorry for all the people that died in this war" won't cut it with the American people come election time. He knows this is true.

If this stays in Community somehow (and it looks like a one-way First Class ticket to OMNI is soon on the cards from the trend of posts!) may I please remind folks here that this current mess has nothing to do with saving the USA i.e. "our" country.

CNN et al may not have appraised the US public of this very often but Australian and British troops are on the ground, and on the water, and in the air, and have been there for months, and are about to also engage. Australia will get no oil from this, nor $20 billion or whatever USA (un-successfully) offered Turkey to assist with access.

I personally oppose any invasion, but one will occur, and it will NOT just be Americans and Iraquis killing and being killed.

Yes, let us hope no FlyerTalker or their families are touched directly by this inevitable conflict. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

The resignation speech of Robin Cook, Leader of the House of Commons, sums up what I believe to be the majority view in the UK.

Chrisstep, this thread is not a discussion of whether or not the USA is justified in attacking and removing Saddam. It is a thread concerning the health and well being of FTers everywhere. To all FTers please be safe and wish you all well. Chris, post your politics in Omni please.

Someone asked me to move this thread last night... and I didn't because I believe ernestb's intent in posting it here was pure.

That said, it has been granted it's one-way ticket to OMNI thanks to the usual suspects.

I suspect all of the current posters know the way over there....
