Anyone get spammed by "FrequentGuest"?

Did anyone else get this spam?

Subject: FrequentGuest:: Hotel Program Update

I got it at the e-mail address I use exclusively for FlyerTalk so I know it was harvested here.

I wonder if Randy knows about this?

Eastbay1K Feb 27, 2003 11:53 pm

KathyWdrf Feb 28, 2003 12:00 am

LastClass Feb 28, 2003 6:51 am

How freaky. Wasn't me, though.

I got two emails last night.

arkangel Feb 28, 2003 8:51 am

Yup, same here. Two identical e-mails last nite.

Yup

Efrem Feb 28, 2003 10:55 am

Got it, too. Fortunately, my e-mail software has a decent junk filter. It just learned one more criterion for junk.

World20 Feb 28, 2003 11:52 am

yup

Randy Petersen Feb 28, 2003 12:56 pm

I did not, which means they must have been selective.

If someone will forward the email to me so i can track this down, i'll report back on what shape the person is in after i get done with them.

Thanks for the heads up.

You have all been wonderful with help.

I have had contact with Adrian Smith, the CEO of tripaudit.com, the company that owns that particular Web site hotelratedesk.com as well as the partiucular employee, Maira, that was responsible for this. They express to you all their apologies and have assured me that they made a mistake and were over-zealous - FlyerTalk being simply too tempting. I have asked that any email addresses taken from FlyerTalk be destroyed.

Again thanks for all your help and concern on this matter. The member account for those involved has been cancelled.

Isn't that a bit of overkill? Perhaps having them deleting their list of addresses harvested from FT might be reasonable, but I'm not sure that actually destroying the email addresses is warrented. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Fast and efficient work Randy. Thanks. One spam attack that backfired.

Dogstar Feb 28, 2003 9:35 pm

Thanks Randy for the quick & decisive action.

Randy, thanks for f/u w/ this. Mucho appreciated it (although I read & deleted the original email; I get so much of this stuff).

On another note, Adrian Smith (it's just too coincidental - or is it - the email addresses don't quite match, so maybe not & no dissing at all) really helped me out when I posted on the United forum about the absurd pricing UA LAX-LAS & got me a fare that save my butt w/ my clients (UA quoted $333 & he created a PNR of $113 that he transfered to UA) & still allowed me to fly UA vs Southwest. I will always appreciate that, whether this person or another.

I thanked both him & flyertalk because if I didn't know about the latter I wouldn't have posted in the first place. So thanks to both for helping me out.
