This may be a stupid question....

but, has anybody traveled with Silly Putty lately. I like to play with Silly Putty as a stress releiver (sort of like a stress ball). Since there seems to be more hassles with air travel now, I thought it would be nice to have some while I'm sitting in airports. Does anybody think security might have a problem with this and think it's something else. Would I just be creating more stress than the Silly Putty could releive?

While i personally have not, I'd sure hope that you can take it on board! It's "silly putty", after all, not plastic explasives! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

That's what I think, but good luck trying to prove it to the TSA employee searching your bag. I'm afraid they might try to "detain" me.

Make sure you carry it in the original silly putty container. Maybe even treat yourself to a new package for the trip. Make sure you share with other FTers (to keep this a community post!)

It's probably not a good idea. Even if you manage to persuade them that it's just silly putty.

I can see it now, someone on the flight see it in your hand and the entire cabin tackles you to the floor and beats you to a pulp.

I was Pinnochio for Halloweeen one year. I used Silly Putty for my nose. It worked great except for everyone wanted to play with my nose.

I'd agree with the assessment that anyone playing with silly putty on board stands a good chance of being mistaken as a terrorist.

Well, they made my mom throw away her stress reliever goo before and it was in its original plastic bowl. But it didn't have any labelling. Maybe the new package will get you through.

On another note, the latest TSA fun I've had during the gate search is them playing Siskel & Ebert with my DVDs. Like the "Oh that was a great movie" or "I didn't really like that one." http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Way back in 1990, I was detained for hours by Paris CDG airport security agents.

I was bringing back a little margarine tub of dirt from the castle construction site at Euro Disneyland.

Seems on the X-Ray it was a little to close to my travel alarm clock.

"Really," I kept saying. "It's just dirt!"

Last night, a friend of mine had a lot of trouble trying to get through a security with a sealed jar of his cat's ashes. The remains of the 17 y.o. cremated pet were in my friend's carry-on and were to be carried to the cat's birth place.
Luckily, the fellow had anticipated trouble and had "armed" himself with a picture of the cat, a note from the vet and the cremation certificate. He got through after 15 minutes of hustling by the security.

gsthome, maybe you should get a note from your doctor ( psychiatrist ? ) that you need Silly Putty to relieve stress otherwise you'd go berserk on the flight http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Wingless, sadly, makes a very good point here!

I agree with wingless. Not a good idea.

I hate to scare anyone, but I've found the Slinky to be a very effective garrote.

I've seen Tommy Smothers do a lot of damage with his Yo-Yo.

Etch-A-Sketch can be filled with explosive gunpowder (it's even the correct color).

And I can fill my Magic 8 Ball with combustable liquid and stick a fuse in it and it'll be just like those round black bombs you see Boris tossing about in those Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons!

Yeech.

I flew with Silly Putty a few months ago, flying LAX-DFW-LGW. No problem whatsoever. It was opened up at LAX, sniffed and deemed harmless. If you're interested, Semtex, or C4, smells like almonds. Silly Putty does not!
