Our friend Nathan Detroit has passed on
Nathan Detroit, passed quietly in his sleep early Sunday morning.
Thanks to Nathan for for his kindness to me and for the joy he brought into my life. |
Oh, no, I am so sorry to hear this. Friends have kept me posted, but I still wasn't prepared to hear this. I'm glad I had the chance to meet him several times--he will be missed.

Ruhe in Frieden - R.I.P.
I am glad he doesn't have to suffer anymore/any-longer and I am also glad, that he was, for three years, also a part of my life. We shared twice a cheese fondue here in Switzerland, and he always tried to meet me on my short transit-connections at ORD in the UA terminal for a beer at Berghoff's. Thank you Nathan also, for all the inside stories/knowledge you shared with me about your role in Nazi-hunting in Bavaria right after world-war-II and during/after the Nurnberg-prozess. |
I only knew him through his posts but he was always one of the true gentlemen...he will be missed...
|
Nathan was a true gentleman and will be missed sadly. But alas he will be trading frequent flyer stories with St. Peter, John and Rae. My condolences to the family. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

I'm very sorry to hear this. Nathan, we will miss you.
|
Nathan, I will miss you and I thank you for sharing some time with me here. Your spirit is a good one and I will take forward a piece of goodness in my life that I gained because I spent even a small amount of time with you. Thank you.
People I do not know what else to say, but I am very glad today that we are a community at this particular time to be able to share with each other the happy memories we hold of this man and to hold virtual hands for a moment as we reflect on this. |
I too am very sorry to hear this news. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif We will all miss you. ------------------ The perfect ladies' man is a perfect gentleman. [This message has been edited by studley (edited 08-27-2002).] |

Such sad news. I'm glad I had the pleasure to meet this fine man.

The world is a poorer place for his passing, but a greater place for his having lived. He was charming, always a gentleman and I will miss his posts.
|
I am going to miss this gentleman. He was my favorite travel companion. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif
I spoke with his wife just a little bit ago. She said that he'd been on morphine for some time, so he wasn't in too much pain these past few months. Just the same I'm glad he's not suffering anymore. If anyone in the Chicago area is willing, can you send me his obituary? [This message has been edited by essxjay (edited 08-27-2002).] |
Never met the man or read any posts, but I wish I could have known him by the way others talk about him. Give my condolenses to the family.
|
Einar and I are so sorry to hear it. We met Nathan in Singapore last November on our mileage runs. He checked in next to us at the Conrad and I immediately noticed his Flyertalk tags. Naturally, we shared time in the concierge lounge. He truly was one of us and will be missed. I hope someone will forward the messages of sympathy to his wife and family.
|
My condolences to his family. I have included a link which will take you to his obituary in the Chicago Tribune today.

I will miss our many emails and chats.
Rest In Peace. |
Today is such a sad day, in so many ways.
When did I last see Nathan Detroit? Last year in Vancouver? I'll miss him. |
Adding condolences - he always was so kind in his posts; he will be missed.
|
I think Nathan just spoke to us again.
Nathan Detroit writes in the earliest days of FlyerTalk, on October 26, 1999: Nathan doesn't need clubs anymore, they being free in the Elysian Fields where F travel on Angelic Airlines (AGL) is also free. Cheers from heaven's grand casino next to the track where Nathan works as a junior angel; next step, full angel (Gold), then archangel (Plat) |
I'd like to pass on my condolences as well. I only knew of the man and would've liked to have met him, considering we were in the same neck of the woods both being in Chicago. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif
------------------ Regards, - Anna |
It is unfortunate that I did not get to Chicago for the FT do when I could have visited Nathan.
He was a quiet unassuming soul (at least during our encounters). I hope his suffering was brief. Every death is a reminder to live each day well and to enjoy life! |
I never had the chance to meet Nathan Detroit, but as is such with this community, I can't help but feel the loss, and send my condolences to those affected.
|
I have had the pleasure to have communicated with him in e-mails and in person. He's a wonderful person who'll be missed.

How very sad to learn of this! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif
My heartfelt condolences. May he forever rest in peace. -Mark |
Everyone who read one of Nathans posts will remember how thoughtful he was. I can only wish his family peace. My family and my prayers are with them

Sad to hear about the loss of a fellow FT'er. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif May he rest in peace.
|
I too wish to extend my condolences to Nathan's family.
We only got ot meet once a cloudy but wonderful day in Seattle two years ago. He has a great story to tell. I believe he has won his wings, and with our beloved Raeban and John A will watch over us for many years to come. You will be missed Nathan Detroit, but not forgotten. |
I look forward to attending the next production of Guys & Dolls I come across. I'll always remember our "Nathan Detroit"...
|
To say I've been out of touch for the past few months is an understatement...I just found out the sad news from essxjay. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif
The times spent with this fine gentleman in SEA & YVR, along with the many e-mails over the past few years will always remain a warm memory. Rest in peace nathan detroit. |
Sleep in peace, and know that you will be remembered long and well by your family and your friends.
You leave behind for us warm and loving memories of you. I just went through and read as many of Nate's old posts as I could find. His dignity and incisive wit will be long remembered. Brian |

Just discovered this thread. Sad news indeed. I knew Nathan through his posts and heaven's gain is our big loss.
|
I miss nate so much.
I was in Chicago this past weekend, primarily to see Bob. Unfortunately, he died five days after we last talked, about a month ago. He was a dear, dear man. |
