I never know if its me as in my computer or network or if FT is down

MisterNice Jan 17, 2002 1:40 pm

I think all the irate-n-enhanced guys over at the NonePass(tm) are causing the problem.

Not being able to get to FT last night was like having a severe case of caffine or nicotine withdrawal. Painful!!! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif
Thought it was my computer.

Did anyone notice that Sheryl's Priceline Forum was down at the same time? An interesting Coincidence.

Nobody ever posts a thread called "We're down".

mymiles2go Feb 24, 2002 12:46 am

And I thought it was my setup here, so I was dinking with things all day long trying to figure it out, after I think I nearly srewed up all my settings on all my network devices, and rebuilt my DNS tables, it's good to know it wasn't me http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

blackjack-21 Feb 24, 2002 1:11 am

Am I wrong, or was this the longest time that FT has been down?
Pheew, all day on Saturday till a short time ago. What happened?

I don't see how changing your DNS would effect if you could access FT. Certainly you would have determined that FT was the only site you could not have opened.

I think the board going up and down is directly related to FF express lines shutting down and openeing up!

Well, I've had previous DNS caching issues on my network, and FT was not the only site I couldn't access today, including a few other larger ones, such as Megaproxy. So, my next logical step was to determine where something was caching something bad along the way, and clearning caches on multiple computers...A lot of times, that does work, for instance, the Hilton site can be kinda quirky at times, when accessing the HHonors portion, they use a finicky form of failover there. At any rate, I never won today, as it was something that I couldn't fix.

It was a tough weekend without f.talk.First I dialed 911 then I took 2 aspirin.

Pinging Flyertalk's address returned a response during the outage. It seems that ever since the server was moved to Viawest that outages are more common. It would be nice if during outages there was a redirection to a webpage that indicated the outage reason. The 22nd outage was caused by UPS failure and a datacenter connectivity loss.

The good news is that I immediately accessed Omni this morning.

I felt the same way. After reading these boards it has now become a "part of life" that is oh so nice.

I even went to the viawest site to see if they had a page about any outages like some providers do...no dice...

Yep! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

FT IS a great place to visit! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

As was once noted so very simply, and yet so very eloquently by "dgolds" a long while back and expressed in various ways by others...

"Folks, we have something rare and good going on here. Let's try and keep it that way."

FWIW, IMHO, from my limited sense of what has lead to a possibly decreasing level of participation of "prominent" FT'ers of the past, it has been the increasing flames, bitterness and acrimony that causes it.

As I'd noted previously, politely offering a few suggestions to consider prior to criticizing other FT'ers:

Anyone know what happened to OMNI and Only Randy Petersen? They seem to be missing in action.

Thanks,
