The Gastronmic Tour of Europe - Easter 2002
 

Whilst at the PiP, Mike lent me a little inspiration to put together a small tour of Europe. To make this work, we need at least 5 people for each venue. That way you can do all or just some of the events.

Its all very much in the early planning stages at the moment, however venues, very much at the top of the list are

Lake Windermere, The Lake District, England (www.fayrergarden.com)
The Porthole / Jerico's (in Windermere)

Ramsey's, Chelsea, London
Pont de la Tour, London

Lapin, Paris
Fish Restraunt whose name I forget in Carac, Brittany.

Under consideration, Vienna, Oslo and Milan.

First of, The Itinery.

Dates :

I am not sure as to when the childen go back to school in America, so if someone can publish dates that would be great. The idea would be for people to arrive in Manchester on Friday, and spend the weekend in the Lakes. Monday, Tuesday in London. Wednesday, Thursday in Paris, Friday in Carnac, ect ect....

Cost :

The restraunts I am looking at a re of Michelin quality, you will be looking at cost of $100+ per person. I am not planning a cheap meal, but I do promise you the best quality, best prepared food, with superb wines and company.

So I hope we get some interest, seperatly I thought it may be nice to do a pre xmas weekend in London. More on that later.

As it happens, part of a trip my wife and I have already planned may overlap with your tour and we would likely be interested in a couple of high class meals in good company while we are there. Our current schedule starts London on Mar. 29 for 4 nights, then over to the island of Jersey Mar. 28 for 5 nights, then back to London Apr. 2 to tour more of England for 5 nights (destinations unspecified - we could even consider a quick roundtrip to France if appropriate) before heading back home from London.

As it happens, I'd already booked a flight to London departing 28 March & returning on the 31st. So, my arm could be twisted for a weekend in the lake district or London http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I'd certainly like to attend at least one of the locations - probably over the weekend; London or the Lake District sounds super !!

OK, its now starting to take shape. I was hoping to do the Lake District part after Easter, when there are less tourists, but the posts and emails indicate that people would prefer it to happen over easter. With that in mind the minimum bookings over easter are 3 nights, either Friday, Saturday, Sunday or Sat, Sun, Mon. I would sugesst the latter, as it will be easier to get down to London.

Please post or mail your preferences. (Fri,Sat,Sun will problebly win, as you have the full weekend)

Reservations for Ramseys will not be an issue, as long as the confirmation os put to bed by December. If you want to stay at FayrerGarden before then, drop me a mail at [email protected] and I ll see if I can get you a discount, or at the very least a complimentry bottle of wine on you arrival. (not the battery acid served by the Hiltons of this world, more like the Chileian Torres at PiP)

is it possible to have an 'official' hotel for us to stay in?

There is no difference in rate over easter. But rates start at $100 per night approx. that is for Dinner, Bed and Breakfast. I am biased, but with regards to the lakedistrict there is no finer hotel that FayrerGarden.com althogh Millerhowe.com is comparable but quite a bit more expensive. I can assure all of a wonderful weekend in a beutiful part of the world.

If that's the case, I'll change my EWR-LGW for MAN today! Anyone know how far it is from Manchester Airport to Windermere and if public transport is available??? Or would it be better to rent a car for the drive??
