Batteries

Several people have told me just today that they are removing batteries from cell phones and laptops when you board and returning them after flight. Has anyone else heard this. It was also on the Niel Bortz radio show.

First time I hear of this.... how are they handling the logistics, are they checking them in at the airplane door...? Do they check each one individually? Sounds very bizarre....

I agree, it does sound bizarre. Most likely, it's an urban legend.

If they take my laptop batteries then I can't work on the plane (I don't always schlep the adapter cord with me) and I'd be raising some heck over that! And with the role that cell phones played on 9/11 on those planes, I'd also be raising even more heck if they even mess with my cell phone. Can't imagine how much this all would slow down the (already too slow) security lines. Tell me it ain't so!

last time that something like this happened to me (removing batteries from my Radio and not even giving them to the airline for getting them back after arrival) was at Bagdad (Iraq) airport when flying back to Europe with Swissair in 1990 (having been at the big International Bagdad fair after the Iraq-Iran-war and before the Gulf War).

Interesting thread, but off topic for this forum. Repositioning it to OMNI ...
