DCA Meeting

I remember when the new terminal in DCA opened (AFAIK '97?) and going out to see it then. I think when it reopens, we should meet as a group even if we are restricted to the main hall area we can still go to Legal Sea Foods or Friday's.

Anyone want to go? Would like to meet other DC FTers and others as well.

worldbanker Sep 19, 2001 10:40 am

Well, great to see the flexibility of us flyers in DC. I have also noticed about 3 dates in October others could join us if it coincided with their trip.
1st- Oct. 1-3
2nd- Weekend of Oct. 12
3rd- Oct. 19-23

The most important factor is when the offical approval is given for opening. I don't expect it will be anytime this month so we will probably meet in October.

At least here is some good news as it does look it will open afterall even though no dates are given:

I have a trip to DC Oct. 22-24 so that would be good timing. Also Oct 10-11.

RDouglas Sep 22, 2001 7:35 am

I live very close to the airport and would love to join the group on any date you decide upon.

JeffS Sep 22, 2001 2:59 pm

I'm game for a visit.

greggwiggins Sep 24, 2001 2:15 pm

I'll also be there. Just name the time, date and place after National reopens.

mdtony Sep 25, 2001 10:31 am

Let me know when you're going to do it, and as long as it's not September 30 to October 3, or October 31 to November 4, or possibly October 20-21, I'm game.

No fear of flying here.

markbach Sep 25, 2001 1:02 pm

I'd be a maybe, depending on dates...

CoachClass Sep 25, 2001 6:56 pm

Sounds like a nice idea. I'll keep an eye on this thread.

worldbanker Sep 26, 2001 9:15 am

I propose a tentative date of October 8. Place and time to be determined, as soon as we receive word about official opening.

This is a Monday and is the holiday observed for Columbus Day. Most of us will either be in an airport traveling to or from DCA (hopefully) or off from work.

I'm doing DC on the weekend of the 20th, airport TBA. If this becomes the weekend of the event, count me in.

Warrenlm Sep 30, 2001 7:45 pm

Hopefully we will hear Tuesday 10/2 when DCA will reopen.

always_delayed Oct 1, 2001 10:24 am

Sounds great! Would love to meet local FT's.
I'll watch the thread.

xaxat Oct 1, 2001 6:33 pm

I'd be up for that. I live just south of the airport and really miss the convenience of DCA (although I don't miss the sound of the planes at 6 am Sunday morning)

TropicalFlyer Oct 2, 2001 12:41 am

The timing could be good since I'll be in D.C. on Thursday. Hope the opening coincides with my visit.

biggs Oct 2, 2001 9:06 am

With the announced opening, I just booked reservations to DCA for next week but will keep BWI on standby because I think it will be a slow start.

Show of hands, is Thursday evening around 6300pm to soon? It is the first day of opening with limited service and I am not certain yet if people not flying will be allowed in due to the various check points that will be installed for people greeting passengers.

TribeFlyer Oct 2, 2001 3:30 pm

Saturday would be better, but I could possibly cancel my Thursday night appt if that's the direction the group is going...

always_delayed Oct 2, 2001 4:00 pm

I am hosting a happy hour on Thursday night and the restaurant is donating all of the proceeded to the Red Cross Fund. I can't miss out on drinking for the cause. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
If you all are still around after 8ish I'll meet up with you later.

greggwiggins Oct 3, 2001 7:59 am

For Thursday evening Oct. 4 I have Orioles tickets and was planning a drive to Baltimore to see Cal Ripken play baseball one last time. Friday evening would be good, however, and would also eliminate most worries about having to wake up and go to work the next morning.

Although, actually I am working Saturday afternoon since I'll be reporting on a beer festival in the Shirlington area of Arlington. (Getting paid to drink free beer -- there are times when writing for a beer magazine has its advantages.)

RDouglas Oct 3, 2001 8:59 am

Worldbanker--Thursday works--keep me (us) posted.

student Oct 3, 2001 9:47 am

Thursday would be good for me. Are we looking to meet at TGIFridays. This is outside the gate area so it should work for everyone the other outside the gate option is Legal Seafood

thezipper Oct 3, 2001 12:10 pm

Thursday is bad for me. I'll catch you all next time.

worldbanker Oct 3, 2001 4:56 pm

Thanks for the emails, I guess we are on for happy hour. Legal Seafoods after 6pm near USAir. I will be there between 6-630pm in the bar area. I suppose we can let the hostess know where to find the FlyerTalk group. Also, bring something to show your support for the airlines, ie. lapel pin or small model airplane. (also to be able to recognize each other!)

Also please confirm, isn't Punki arriving in Thursday evening?

I'm up for lunch today, but can't make dinner...

always_delayed Oct 4, 2001 11:49 am

FYI - TGIFriday's is closed (well it's open, but they aren't serving food) and Legal Seafood was packed at lunch and service was very slow (I'm sure they weren't expecting the crowd).
I wonder what it will be like at happy hour? Have fun tonight!

Also, there are TV cameras EVERYWHERE, so if you are telling your wife you have to work late or if you're in the witness protection program... not a good spot to hang out. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

mdtony Oct 4, 2001 12:12 pm

Awww, crud, guys. I just got back from a trade show and have tons of stuff to catch up on. Next time, maybe?

Catch ya later and have a great time. Have a drink or two for me, because I'll be stuck working late.

kokonutz Oct 4, 2001 12:22 pm

It was fun! I delivered a big bouquet of flowers to the UA counter employees (who told me that 1/3 of them will be permanently laid off on Friday) and got to meet always_delayed and student for the first time http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif.
