copenhagen hotels

any recommendations? i am finding it hard to find accomodations here, especially those that i can confirm immediately over the internet. i could mail all the hotels in town, but i don't think that's wise. also, is there anything such as a bargain in denmark? i've found much better pricing in norway, sweden and finland for that matter. what gives??

This probably belongs over in TravelBuzz or some other forum, but... on very short notice (I was getting on the plane from ORD as I made the reservation) I stayed at the Rossini and was sufficiently pleased at what I got for $100. It was a typical 3* Scandinavian hotel, which in the USA would be a 1.5 star. But, it's clean, it's in a suburban area but only about twelve minutes door-to-door to the Central Station and the TI via the subway, and the staff is friendly.

In Sweden, I've had some success with the Supranational and Sweden Hotels chains.

OK, essxjay, you can move the thread now. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

From what I have seen (visiting hotels that fellow FT'ers have stayed on when visiting my capital city) Copenhagen hotels are awful. The value for money is very bad in my opinion. I think I would demand payment to stay at some of these places.

I would suggest either the new Hilton at the airport or a Radisson SAS hotel. I think the value for price paid is best at these places.

Also, we do not have a subway in Copenhagen (yet). http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I've stayed at the Savoy (last summer). It's a few blocks from the train station. Small and reasonably priced.

I would move this thread to the FT Travel board, but I'm only able move threads within the FT Miles area. Until the FT masterminds figure out a way to move threads across different boards there's not much I can do.

i apologize for posting it here, but when i went to the other subforums, the responses there are a lot less. thanks for your help, and at least i know i am not alone in my horror at what's available in cph.

My wife and I flew to CPH for a long week end this past spring. Had a marvellous time. We stayed at the Copenhagen Admiral Hotel. It is a converted grain mill down at the harbour. Our original booking was a semi-suite but we did not stay in it as it was two floors and seemed small, with the bedroom on the second floor with no windows. So we moved to the senior suite, of which there are two. just wonderful, great view of the ships sailing to Sweden and Norway, mind you it cost too much but wee get so little time away, it was well worth it.

Another excellent choice, 5* is The Angleterre. It is situated in the town square and is your typical older grand hotel. Even if you don't stay here, you should go to the bar. there are photographs of their guests from Raymond Burr to Dwight D. Eisenhower. And I am telling you we met a fascinating character there1

Go down to the port where the naval ships tie up, they will let you on their submarine if it is in port.

Have fun.

I have been looking into CPH hotels for a trip next June. Have noted that Marriott is opening a downtown new hotel in CPH sometime this month. Depending on your timetable you might want to check it out. It can be reserved over the internet but I am not sure of the hotel's opening date.

Mariott is opening 01SEP01 and has a very good location, but you will need to walk 10 minutes to most things. Other nice hotels- with-atmosphere recommendations from a copenhagener are:

Nyhavn 71 Hotel
Opera Hotel
Phoenix hotel

This hotels has probably lower rates and are located in the very best area.....

I stayed at the Hotel D'Angleterre about a month ago. It's a lovely grand dame hotel, perfectly located, and pricey.

While Copenhagen doesn't have a subway, all of the city's taxis seem to be late-model Mercedes!
