Confirmed:
  1. ANC RED-EYE
  2. GrjApp
  3. nomadic.relief
  4. krazykanuck
  5. MSPeconomist
  6. Seat 2A (lunch Saturday, tentative dinner Sunday)
  7. beckoa (so far no train)

Schedule:

Friday
  • Early arrivals – do your own thing - see post #2 for suggestions.
  • Happy Hour: LaVelle's Taproom, mobile pizza from Hungry Robot for a snack.
    • GrjApp
    • ANC RED-EYE
  • Dinner - 7.30 PM - Jazz Bistro
    • GrjApp
    • ANC RED-EYE
Saturday
  • 11:30 - depart for early lunch in Fox (brief stop to view the Alaska pipeline en route)
  • Noon - lunch Silver Gulch Brewery Reservation for 6 confirmed; please RSVP to @ANC RED-EYE if you need to be added or removed from the presumed attendee list posted here.
  • 2:00 return to hotel
  • 2:30 shuttle/uber/cab to train (we want to be there an hour prior to departure so we can get tables together)
  • 4:00 train
  • 8:00 return (MSPeconomist believes the return is 8:30 rather than 8:00)
  • evening - tbd

Sunday

Per MSPeconomist As of September 20th, tickets were still available. The train has a capacity of 240 people, probably in three cars, and all tables seat four.

The train people told me to plan to arrive about an hour early for the train, but they don't deny boarding if you get there at 3:01 pm. A photo ID is needed to get your ticket. I plan to also bring a hard copy of my email ticket confirmation.

Happy travels to all en route today! It is a lovely day here and if one can believe in Wunderground, it should be more of the same all weekend.

See everybody tomorrow for lunch if not the train, and a few this evening for drinks/dinner.

I'm here, in the Springhill Suites downtown. I'm planning to join the (small) group for happy hour and maybe for dinner.

What time do we meet and how do I find the group or recognize people? I understand that this is at Lavelle's Taphouse, 414 2nd Avenue, not the same as Lavelle's Bistro restaurant in the Springhill Suites, right?

ADDED: I found (by google) Jazz Bistro at 527 4th Avenue. Friday nights at this time of year seem to have Afro Cuban live music starting at 8:30.

ADDED AGAIN: Faribanks Distilling is apparently open today from 4-8pm (and also tomorrow = Saturday), located in a historic building at 410 Cushman in downtown Fairbanks. This looks much easier to find and get to/from than Hoar Frost Distilling.

Glad you are getting settled in. Oops, yes I failed to mention that possibly, but staying on for a bit of the music was factored into the 7:30 dinner reservation. That said, we're a small enough group that we can play it by ear this evening - see you all then!

Three hours ago they had small glass - they probably just ran out - don't get too excited.

Was told they were just added ^
@BOB W they also have new wine glasses.

Ended up in 3C. GA had to FIM my ticket due to a mismatch during a SDC earlier today.

A FIM is only valid for a specific flight on a new airline that is not the airline the ticket was originally issued with.
Ergo, @beckoa is using the term incorrectly.

Unless AS put him on DL.
