Dinner in NYC on August 6th

I will be on my way back to Germany from a friend's wedding in SEA and making a one night stop in the greater NYC area. [Arriving EWR at 17h10 on CO 128.]

Hoping to get a few people together for dinner of some sort somewhere.

Surely I can't believe everyone is already busy that evening, nearly 4 months in advance? Interested parties should reply here or contact me by email. Information will be updated as it becomes available!

Cheers,

Sebastien

doc Apr 20, 2001 8:59 pm

So far in advance that I'm not absolutely sure! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I should be able to make it and I'm looking forwaed to it! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

SMessier Jun 13, 2001 5:38 am

Bringing this forward again as ticket has been issued and plans are more or less final.

I will be stopping in NYC for one night only(!), on my way back from SEA, on August 6th Monday).

Suggestions for dinner are welcome -- though I would like to try out Ruth's.

Scheduled to be staying at the 4Points in EWR fwiw.

There are so many more extraordinary restaurants in NYC than Ruth's! The Double-Smoked Chop at Beacon, ANYTHING at Veritas, the duck at D'Artagnan, and if you're anywhere near W. 4th & W. 11th Streets (note that it's the intersection of streets, not a street and an avenue), try the Dacquoise Cake from Tartine! See my site for details and links to further info.

essxjay Jun 15, 2001 11:37 am

LGA,

:::watering mouth:::

Veritas is near/at the top of my list for my next visit. Of course, I'm dying to go back to Gramercy Tavern, if nothing for the coconut tapioca w/cilantro sauce by James Beard Award-winning pastry chef, Claudia Fleming. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

BTW, what's your Web site?

ljp99 Jun 18, 2001 2:22 pm

Good list of restaurants - Ive tried several in NYC area - and then I realized the familiarity with some on the list was due to www.chowhound.com

SMessier Jul 13, 2001 11:14 pm

Bringing this forward before going on the road until the start of the trip.

August 6th it is for interested parties.

In spite of the nice suggestions though, I remain eager to try Ruth's for the first time...

That is Numero-Uno site for discussion on eating in NYC. Also good reviews can be had at Shaw's Reviews http://www.fat-guy.com

Sebastien,

Arriving UA422 DEN-EWR on August 6th, at 4:26pm Monday. Expect an email of the details.

So who's joining us for dinner? Please post the restaurant if you've made a decision. If we're going to Ruth's, I'm ordering a petite filet mignon MR with a side of au gratin potatoes (with Tillamook Cheese, of course http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif )

I'll try Priceline now, got Le Parker Meridian in March for $80 a night!

See you soon!

Uh -- I'll have to check with Catman on that one. I'm leaving for France in a few hours, so though I may not respond here for the next 10 days or so, be certain the dinner is on.

Ling Jul 19, 2001 11:12 am

Hi,

Just to let you know, you can move me from possible to definite. I'm looking forward to seeing you again, Catman, and to meeting the other Flyer Talkers. Hopefully, the novocaine from my dentist appointment that day will have worn off by 7:00 p.m. I think this get-together will be my reward for the torture. And before anyone offers to eat my steak, I'll doggy-bag it home before I let that happen. My Siamese cat can always bark when it comes to meat although she is more of a chicken afficianado.

See you all on the 6th.

Chris

Ling Jul 23, 2001 4:09 pm

Hi guys! Tried Priceline hoping to get the 4points EWR, since this would make things easier. My bid of $40 was rejected, and I was accepted at the EWR Hilton for $43 for the night of August 6th. Close enough.

See you soon.

Linda

doc Jul 23, 2001 7:27 pm

I'll try but I wish it were the one on 51st Street because it's easier to get there since I don't have access to a car than to the one in Weehawken off the corkscrew of the Lincoln Tunnel. But I'm just picky! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Analise Jul 30, 2001 8:55 am

I missed the one at Sparks because I haven't been to this particular forum in awhile. Oh well. Next time! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I think I'm going to come up on the train...Can I bum a ride off of someone? I'll come into NYPenn or NewarkPenn, whatever's easier for you. Please email me if you can give me a ride. Thanks.

Ling Aug 1, 2001 2:33 pm

Won a bid for $90 at the Marriott Marquis NYC for the night after dinner. Got my concert ticket in the mail (Al Jarreau and Rachelle Ferrell at Westbury). Award e-ticket itinerary printed out. I'm ready. I'm hungry. Wonder if they have fresh raspberries for dessert?

ED..is the Mayor coming to dinner? Maybe I should check the local farms for berries before I come out.

Linda

Weehawken!?!? You mean I read through a whole NYC thread to find out you'll rendezvous in NJ?

I have a business dinner at the Four Seasons, but if you switch to the 51 St. Ruths, you'll gain a drinking buddy!

Steve

I would love to join you, as I live and work in NJ. But I have court that night for one of my clients. I will make every effort to attend to next get together since I am ready to meet all of you.

Catman Aug 4, 2001 8:51 am

Sorry you can't make it amazin'

Steve: I picked the Weekhawken Ruth's since it would be convenient for most of the guests since tehy are in NJ (and I need to get home fast after the dinner for working in the morning.)

But keep watching the boards for get togethers. There are some in NYC.

mjm: You have mail. Sorry you are missing the dinner! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

OK, we have our forum of 10... now that boomer and stockmanjr are joining us...

The cast as follows:

Catman, your host
SMessier, our special guest and co-host
Ling
NjFlyer
Kitty Hawk
Vulcan
Mark Bach
Chrism
Boomer
stockmanjr

See ya monday night at 7:15p sharp at the Weehawken Ruth's Chris.

Catman Aug 7, 2001 6:00 am

Thanks everyone for a wonderful dinner, to meet stockman jr for the first time, to chat for mroe than 30 secs with Chrism, to welcome Sebastien and Ling back to the area and to catch up with Alley Cats members Vulcan, NJFlyer and KittyHawk.

Here's some of the highlights of the evening:

Sebastien's bag got torn but Continental went out of its way to give suggestions and offer help. I did NOT know airlines can offer replacement luggage.

We got worried about Mark bach for not showing. Turns out he sent an e-mail earlier (that no one got) that he was sick. Hope you feel better buddy, I had to drink your PEPSI.

Dinner was fabulous, the first time for Smessier, chrism and stockmanjr at Ruth's. Eva the server was quick and helpful. And we surprised Ling with an early birthday celebration (after all, every Flyertalker deserves his or her moment in the spotlight!)

Thanks to NJFLyer for getting us there fast, and Vulcan for getting us back home safely.

So let's do it again soon.

Thanks for coming.
