Thanks, Doc!
Congratulations, Doc, on your second anniversary on FlyerTalk! According to my math, you've averaged 23 posts per day -- all of top-notch quality and interest to frequent flyers. (At an average of two minutes per post, that's three-quarters of an hour a day!) Thanks! Where do you find the time?
|
If doc is anything like me, it probably takes him more like 10 minutes per post (remember, you need to read/search the threads or find the news before you post). At 23 posts a day, that would equate to something closer to 4 hours a day (or a quarter of his waking hours) on FlyerTalk. That is scary!
|
Another interesting fact: Doc posts almost as frequently as randy Petersen in the Only Randy Petersen forum. Perhaps a forum name change is in order? Congratulations!
|
It's not that difficult to cut, copy, and paste from news wire stories.

Doc,
Congratulations. After all of the lurking that I've done over the last 2 years, and trying to be a support group for Punki, I've decided to jump in and become an addict. You've set some awesome goals for posting. Joe ps. Thanks to dgolds for the handle, I decided against using the other one "S*****" |
Though its not difficult to cut and paste doc, IMHO you provide a valuable community service in that you take the time to filter all the stuff thats written about the travel world, and present a decent cross-section of the good, the bad, and the humorous. In addition to the mainstream venues, I certainly have profited from a number of your postings in the Asian FF forums (you are often the only inhabitant in the last N days)... I've learned about new program features, alliances, and often seemingly trivial occurances that have had a tangible and positive impact on my own travels.
Keep going... and thanks. |
Well, it's surely safe to say that if it were too hard than I certainly wouldn't do it! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
Thanks for the post, 0524, and the very kind words. I'm very appreciative, yet it is not necessary to reprise this, as it has been recently done several times before as noted: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum95/HTML/001109.html http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum1/HTML/003288.html http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum1/HTML/003601.html http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum95/HTML/000588.html http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum1/HTML/003584.html http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum94/HTML/002682.html Besides, I blush rather easily, and much prefer to toil in relative obscurity! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif Truly, I just consistently try to be positive and strive to bring my absolute best to FT. With each of us sharing their very best and offering their widely differing views in a respectful manner, FT remains now, as it has been for some time and will always remain in the future, the best place for miles, points and travel info. Thus, I sincerely hope that others also share this view, as it is essentially ALL of us collectively, IMHO, that conribute to make FT the truly great informative, fun place it is to visit! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif And the ones to really thank are manifestly Randy and his fine devoted staff! Kudos all around! Thanks again everyone! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
and much prefer to toil in relative obscurity! As someone who posts now and again, I suspect Fallinasleep's figure above would be on the low side to be honest. Way low. In my year or so around FT I can't imagine too many, if any, major News stories that Doc has not posted first. He posted one this week from the morning Sydney newspaper I get, that I had not even read yet. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Great job Doc - keep up the fine work, and unbeatable indexing, that would have the Library Of Congress jealous. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif ------------------ ~ Glen ~ |
Some of us were wondering what you do, doc?
It seems like there must be lots of travel included, because I've seen your posts recommending hotels in Asia and many places in the US, including St. Louis when I was researching a hotel there (Yes, I did end up reserving the Ritz-Carlton, thank you!) -David |
congrats, doc. Your face must hurt from all the smiling and winking and grinning. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif errrrrr http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif errrrrrrr http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Well LIH Prem ... "burled walnut trim" says it all. It's a long story, not even worth getting into. But good question anyway.
|
doc--
with you around, why am i paying subscription $$ to 'inside flyer'?! keep it up. |
Why all the mystery, burkey?

Thanks are also in order from me. As a relative newcomer, I can think of several instances of doc's postings helping me enormously; eg, doc saved us $1111 (no typo there. Yes >$1K!) on 3 r/t tix this summer for a visit to my mom/sons' grandma. It was 3 days later that I received word from 2 diff travel agents who I had asked to inform me of any fare sales. By the time they called, of course the cheapest seats were no longer available. There are also other cases of doc's helping me. Let's just say "mega thanks" are in order.
Mega thanks, doc! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif ------------------ |
