FT Meeting in Vancouver
There are come FlyerTalkers who are planning to meet in Vancouver on the weekend of March 24th-25th.
Idea is for: Saturday night: Dinner and drinks Sunday morning: Brunch * Perhaps a more active event on Saturday afternoon if there is interest. If you've got some free time, come on up to YVR! You can get a rate of CAD$139 at the Sheraton Wall Centre Hotel at http://www.tourism-vancouver.com Let us know if you are planning to come! It should be a good time http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
Against the Catman Do Trois? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
Remember, there already is a FT Vancouver event planned for May 18-20: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum95/HTML/000840.html |
EPS: This is in no way meant to go up against the Catman Do Trois. As I understand it, the Catman Do is full in fact. Catman, I hope you don't take offense to this. It's just meant as a casual gathering in YVR. This is not a full-out FT event. I certainly mean no disrespect to the large, and I'm sure excellent event in New York that weekend.
As far as the May YVR event goes... I think we'll all be back in May too!!! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif We just need something to get us through the rest of the snowy winter! |
I think we might want to do a head cound on this thread just to verify numbers for dinner on Saturday...
|
You guys will have to pick the restaurant because I've never been to Vancouver before. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I'm in.
Let me know if there is anything that I can help arrange. |
FT Vancouver Get-together
March 24th - 25th, 2001 I think that we should think about where to go for dinner on Saturday and brunch on Sunday morning (for those who are still in town on the Sunday morning) so that reservations can be made. Dinner Suggestion: (Thanks to AC*SE for this) -Cioppino's Mediterranean Grill in Yale Town http://www.cioppinosyaletown.com/ The menu looks really good to me, and the photo of the dining room is very interesting Brunch Suggestion: -Raincity Grill overlooking English Bay http://www.raincitygrill.com I've had so many nice brunches here enroute from Whistler to the airport. Great service, and excellent food. Not badly priced either -Globe@YVR Restaurant (In the Fairmont Vancouver Airport Hotel) http://www.fairmont.com/ Restaurant overlooks Pier E of the transboarder area of the passenger terminal. If anyone has any suggestions in addition to these, please post them for us to see and discuss. List of Participants as of 7-03-01: Confirmed FlyerAl Fly Boy CPYVR AC*SE Fisch ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Not Sure Ken hAAmer After Burner If you're not on the list, we'd LOVE to have you, but let us know soon please, even if you are not 100% sure you can be there. |
Here are some more ideas (not to lessen the above suggestions) to give some idea what's available.
Other downtown restaurants to be considered are English Bay Cafe and the Boathouse, both in the same area as the Raincity Grill, but with perhaps better views of English Bay, and higher prices. Near the north end of Denman St (next to the Westin Bayshore) is Cadero's, built on piles over the water and with a view of Coal Harbour (float planes and boats) and the North Shore mountains. Any of these would be suitable for lunch/brunch or dinner. A little way out of downtown is the Cannery, world acclaimed seafood, right on Vancouver harbour -- between the grain elevators and container terminals -- i.e. "character." Only open for dinner. The West End and the West Side (not the same thing, and not to be confused with West Van) have a large selection of great restaurants. For smaller groups there are many cool little places, often with live music if that's your taste, with a very varied range and ethnicity of foods. (My favourite is "Nyala" -- Ethopian food and live music, mostly jazz and folk.) If I'm in town (and it's looking better every day) I'll arrange for a larger vehicle or minivan, and would be happy to chauffer people around. (But don't count on it until I'm certain to be available.) [This message has been edited by Ken hAAmer (edited 03-07-2001).] |
Do you need to know a secret hand shake to get involved with this? Or can any Idiot come?
|
Village Idiot, we'd love to have you join us. Can we put as confirmed? Do you expect to partake in dinner and brunch, or just one of them?
Glad you're with us http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
Thanks. I get in from CDG on the 23rd. I should be able to make either dinner or brunch. Put me down as a definite maybe. I'll have to see if I have any clean underwear left... Want to make a good impression http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
I also might bring a friend. He isn't a FT member yet, but is a real frequent traveller. I'll ask him tomorrow. Oh, and that resturant in Yale Town is a great choice for dinner. One of my favorites in Vancouver. |
Fisch,
If we are go for Cioppino's that's great. Now, do we want to just order off the menu, or shall I call Pino and just ask him to feed us? If we just get Pino to feed us, anybody coming with dietary intolerances/restrictions or food allergies, let me know ASAP. |
Re Sunday Brunch: I have a suggestion too - what about Dim Sum?
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
I say just let Pino feed us http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif But what do the others think?
BTW AC*SE: am I too assume that this is an expensive, but not the upper end of expensive, restaurant? It looks quite nice! |
Just keeping this thread on the page! Next week should be a hoot - lots of fun!
