More Public Discussion of This Thread

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum73/HTML/000175.html

Hey Gang,

I will probably be accused of "whining", but I am getting very frustrated with this issue. I believe it is time for the entire community to weigh in on this subject.

Feel free to flame me publicly or privately email me (even though someone does not believe anyone emails me).

William

Wharvey,
I actually support your position, but I do believe too many by far have weighed in on this topic already. It can't do more than get uglier and more acrimonious. I think this was a mistake.

Many want to see FT to be a far more peaceful place in 2001, myself included. This thread you just posted was I submit done deliberately with the intention to ensure that does not happen. And that is sad. The postings from this point on will determine if that is the will of others or not. I will show some restraint to that end and agree not to post here.

Oz, you cannot have it both ways. On one hand, you say that "the posts this point on will determine if that is the will of others" but at the same time you imply that anyone posting here will cause the increased acrimony on the board.

It is totally unacceptable to take FT hostage that way.

As a doctor, you gave some medical advice on another thread. This goes straight to the core of the issue of your credibility on this board. Let me ask again: what kind of doctor are you? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum94/HTML/003933.html

I am sure we will hear from people saying that this thread should die. They are well-intentioned. But in my opinion, they are also unable to resolve the basic issue.

For those on this board who do not like this thread, my apologies for your uncomfortableness. However, I do NOT apologize for bringing it to the Community Room. I believe it is the perfect place for the community to "COME TOGETHER" and deal with this issue.

However, I care about this community... and believe we have to resolve some of the basic issues of this community. It is because I care about this community that I brought the subject up here rather than the "hidden" place it was being discussed.

Part of being in a community means being accountable for your actions in that community. Too quickly we move to "make nice" or say "We should not have these discussions" without addressing the concern that caused the rift.

A rift HAS been created on this board... and I did not create it. I will say, however, that I am not willing to let it continue without asking the community to weigh in. Will this board survive if we do not address the rift? Of course! Will the community be as enriched as it could? I believe not!

I find it interesting that the person who is at the center of all this can actually say that "Many want to see FT to be a far more peaceful place in 2001, myself included". I must be reading the wrong postings. Not sure I have seen that "Peaceful Place" exhibited and nurtured by that person.

I also will not be held hostage to my opinions and views by someone who is threatening and disrespectful. I also accept that I sometimes react quickly to what I see... and could probably learn from Punki's ability to count to three before reacting... and counting again! (Doubt I have the will to do that!!!)

Again, my apologies for any innocent feelings I have hurt. That was not intended.

If the views of this community OR Randy believe I have stepped out-of-bounds, I will accept that and leave the board willingly and never post again. (I cannot promise not to lurk as I still value the traveling knowledge this board provides!) In addition, I pledge that you never have to worry about my posting under false aliases.

Respectfully,

William

Agreed.

No offense to my fellow flyertalkers....

But it most be a pretty slow day if this is all you have to post. I'm sorry if this sounds a little hardball, instead of softball, but PLEASE, enough already.

PS to OZ,
We're going to beat you up in NYC at the DO. Verbally that is. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

And for the record, I'll stand in front of Catman to protect him. Also, I'll stand in front of OZ to protect him too.
In spite of the fact that this family, like all other families, don't always get along, we'll have to put up with eveyone. That's life folks.

Regards,
Dan
In spite of what you think, this was just edited for spelling. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

OMNI for Dan and everyone else coming to my DO:

THERE WILL BE NO VIOLENCE AT MY DO. IF ANY OF YOU HAVE TO HAVE YOUR CATFIGHTS, PLEASE TAKE IT OUTSIDE CITE. THAT INCLUDES SCREAMING MATCHES, FOOD FIGHTS, EVERYTHING.

I WANT A NICE QUIET, RELATIVELY UNEVENTUAL DO WITH A FEW SURPRISES IN STORE THAT HOPEFULLY WON'T HURT ANYONE.

THANK YOU!

(And I know you are kidding Dan and thanks for standing in front of me!)

ozstamps Mar 2, 2001 12:54 am

Catman and Dan, you won't get any arguments from me. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif And thanks for the even handed spirit in which it was posted Dan.

I have a ladyfriend flying 10,000 miles each way for that weekend who has never heard of FlyerTalk much less the familiar names, and if nothing else out of politeness for her sake will not be seeking anything but a pleasant night, as I hope will all attending in respect to Catman's wishes.
