Possible FT Gathering at GEG

The talk started with where to eat near GEG (Longhorn BQ!) and ended up discussing a possible FT Gathering here in the Inland Empire. So, anyone interested? If so, what date(s)?

TravelWeary Jan 2, 2001 3:04 pm

It all started with a restaurant discussion here:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum94/HTML/003342.html

MileageAddict suggested we party on AS or QX from SEA to GEG and I second this fun idea. My business travel is rarely planned more than 2 weeks ahead, so I'm usually open until then. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif What are we talking about-- dinner maybe?

Punki Jan 2, 2001 3:15 pm

Whooda thunkit? A Flyer Talk Party in Spokane. Sure, I'd love to go. Let's wait until they pop up with a $59.00 fare and set a date.

Is anybody interest in dinner at Patsy Clarks? It's a little pricey, but well worth the money.

Check it out and let me know what you think.

Thanks Punki--that URL didn't work too well -- but this one does.
This is getting closer to me anyway http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Are you guys serious???

Punki Jan 2, 2001 3:59 pm

I'm serious.

violist Jan 2, 2001 4:02 pm

Just found all the electrons that my original innocent query engendered: it looks as though you guys are serious, after all. I'd prefer a Seattle do, myself, but I understand that's a big yawner for the longtime FTers, as you've done several. Would anyone be up for supper on 1/22 in Seattle? I think I might be free for a Longhorn luncheon on 1/23, Tall Paul; if you're interested give me an e-mail.

Off-topic. Is there anything interesting in Wenatchee? I nominate that city for "official FT mascot city" - just because of its airport code. My friend B and I were going to do a whimsy run between there and Fresno back in the old days when United Express flew there. Never did it though.

MileageAddict Jan 2, 2001 4:35 pm

I'm in. Let me know what date is decided upon and I'll start watching the AS specials for the cheapie fare. $59 is kinda low but finding it at $68 is not unusual. Also, the AS specials can be purchased without any sort of stayover if you want to head back to SEA after dinner!

If I'm reading the schedule right, it looks like the last AS/QX flight back to SEA is at 9:30 p.m., and on Saturday it is at 6:00 p.m.

Otherwise, rooms can be had at the Doubletree for $78 and Hampton Inn for $74. If we do this before the end of Feb, some of us may be able to use a stay to get those Hilton Gold Challenge bonus points.

I'm in if the dates work out. Both Patsy Clarks and Longhorn are good in their own way. Have enjoyed great food many times at both.

violist - "Tall Paul; if you're interested give me an e-mail" I'm interested but I will be in SLC that week-sorry.

Sounds exciting for a Dinner!

eastwest Jan 2, 2001 11:38 pm

If I can find a cheap flight, I'd love to come along . . . spent 13 hours in the Seattle airport 2 weeks ago http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif but I've never been to GEG.

They are now showing the $58 or $59 SEA/GEG tickets on the AS Web Specials from the end of January through June.

These prices will change on Thursday I believe, but they come back often. I like the idea of all taking the same plane if we can come up with a date.

Actually checking out the menue at Patsy Clark's, it isn't as expensive as I thought.

Punki,

I guess we were both right. The $59 fare is $69.50 including taxes. A great rate for a mini FT in-the-sky party nonetheless!

Another thought is Sunday Brunch at Patsy's. We could fly in Saturday and spend a night or just fly in Sunday morning and back out that afternoon. Since AS' last flights back to SEA aren't very late, this might be a better option for those just wanting a day trip.

Tall Paul Jan 4, 2001 10:38 am

Another possiblity for a hotel would be the DoubleTree downtown (formerly the Sheraton). Its next to the park and has a very good steak restaurant (I say this having eaten at Burns 3-4 times). I think I can get us a room rate of $89. You can certainly pay less, but it is a nice hotel.

I got these weekend rates off the Hilton website this week.

If I come to the GEG shin-dig, I would do a one day trip. I'm not available the weekends of 1/20-21 or 2/10-11 or 2/17-18.

GEG is a nice option for Californians flying up on AS because of the new bonus miles tie-in with American. As GEG requires a change of planes in SEA most of the time, it earns us 4 segments.

AA deal:

6,000 AA bonus miles if you complete 3 AS + 3 AA flights
15,000 AA bonus miles for 6 AS + 6 AA flights
27,000 AA bonus miles for 9 AS + 9 AA flights

Promotion period is Jan 15 through Apr 15, 2001

In fact, I just booked a ticket to the FT Miami dinner by flying SFO-SEA-MIA using both Alaska and American. A wee diversion for miles and segments!

johna Jan 8, 2001 7:14 pm

I was just in Spokane visiting my sister for Christmas. Another hotel possibility is the Best Western Thunderbird downtown - my room was just fine, and the price (using the Entertainment Card) was only $32.50! They said the rate should be available most nights into March.

ElmhurstNick Jan 8, 2001 7:33 pm

Horizons, you can do GEG with 6 segments, as AS will let you change at *both* SEA/PDX each way. Neat, eh?

Punki Jan 8, 2001 7:38 pm

OK, some brave soul needs to pick a date.

Tall Paul Jan 9, 2001 2:26 pm

Well, OK. What about February 24th or 25th? If it was Sunday, we could plan to do a Patsy Clark's brunch. Pretty sure we could get one of their separate rooms.

Those that wanted to make it in one day could take the 10:00A AS MD80 and have an eye opener. There would be plenty of time for Brunch etc before returning on the 5:30 GEG-SEA AS MD80 return flight. Lots of other flights, just not many big planes.

I could see if AS would give us a VIP tour of their new terminal (not sure if there is much to see), although it would be more fun to have a special tour of the planes at Fairchild AFB (not sure how to arrange that).

TravelWeary Jan 9, 2001 3:03 pm

Man, we should have jumped on those earlier fares. I just checked Tall Paul's Sunday itinerary and it prices out at $155! Otherwise, I like that weekend.

BlondeBomber Jan 9, 2001 3:12 pm

You'll have to count me out for 24th/25th (will be in eastern Canada and then off to Africa).

Keep organizing though. You might change the dates yet. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

MileageAddict Jan 10, 2001 3:50 pm

Here's a suggestion:

Since I am assuming that most of us would travel to GEG via Alaska out of SEA, why don't we wait until Alaska posts the web fare to GEG again? They do it at least once a month...

EPS Jan 25, 2001 11:15 pm

UA has lowered SFO-GEG fares. Inventory is tight for the 25th, however.

TravelWeary Feb 7, 2001 4:01 pm

AS has $68 SEA-GEG fares now for dates 2/13 - 6/8. I wouldn't mind a 2/24-2/25 trip as I could do my last Hilton conquest bonus stay (25,000 points) before the promo ends. We could do Sunday brunch at Patsy Clark's for those who just want to fly in and out on Sunday. Anyone?

Punki Feb 21, 2001 12:50 am

I just noticed the cheap fares again.
