[once again from the Mexicana airport lounge in MTY, awaiting my flight back to MEX]
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....... so pasta isn't tough enough…? (Great reprise Bernie, I would have commented the same myself…..) http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif So, before I go on to answer some of the above comments, I would like to set the record straight on the following issues: - I'm a shy Guy, so I never comment on my appearance - I don't recall praising myself as a good cook - I mentioned that before passing judgement, one should try my chow - Bratkartoffeln are a side dish, whereas Pasta is usually a main course Of course, I love Bratkartoffeln and it is true that the Germans say " Essen mit Kartoffeln ist ein Hauptessen " (or something like that, please excuse the grammar/spelling), but… that doesn't count. Finally, as to the culinary gauntlet that's just been thrown at me, I will first say that due to the logistics involved in savoring good food, pasta is relatively easy to handle for a non-seated dinner with lots of attendees.... I'm assuming that if Bernie throws another FT gathering it will be a huge success, so therefore the numbers will be quite large (Bernie, have you kicked out that lousy neighbor of yours yet? We need the extra space !!!!). http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif Why pasta? Basically, because all you need is the cook to monitor the 'al-dente' point of the various pastas and the sauces can almost always be prepared before hand (unless, for example, you are doing a real Fettuccine Carbonara - where exact timing is everything). This way, you have the guests line up at the kitchen - as each gets his serving of steaming pasta & sauce, they then parade on to the living room for extras like oregano &/or parmesan and a nice glass of your favorite red wine.... If the numbers are large enough, you will need 2-3 large pasta pots and some help serving (the best pasta is served directly from the pot to the plate, none of this going into a tray nonsense). In any event, that's the way I have handled things at the pasta parties I have hosted. But, since we are going to do this as a group effort, then I could offer to conjure up 3-4 different pasta sauces and hike up the difficulty level with say…. Game Hen Cordon Bleu…? (I of course mean chicken, but I will use the airline denomination for chicken - it just makes it sound harder to cook) … http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif Bernie, could pitch in with another Hauptgericht (you can choose which one), we will gladly accept Punki's salad, and maybe Rudi will show us that he can make us a real Strudel (is not true that Strudels come from Austria, they are in fact a Swiss invention). - Rudi, please no cheating by getting Gisela to make it… http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif but please do bring her along. So, Bernie... Which weekend should we tentatively start looking for reservations to attend the second DUS Flyer Talk event…???? PS: actually the observations regarding my golf game are in-fact correct, Im very much a weekend hacker… (a solid 30 handicap) http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif ------------------ Gaucho100K [This message has been edited by Gaucho100K (edited 02-12-2001).] |
